What's the Difference Between an Automatic and a DSG?"

❓Automatic vs DSG – What's the difference?

People often use the terms interchangeably, but they're not quite the same.

A traditional automatic uses a torque converter to change gears.
A DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) uses two computer-controlled clutches to provide much quicker gear changes.

Both have their advantages, and both need specialist knowledge when it comes to servicing and repairs.

This is probably our most frequently asked question.
Most wet-clutch DSG gearboxes require servicing every 40,000 miles, although this can vary depending on the manufacturer and model.

Missing these services can increase wear inside the gearbox and may lead to expensive repairs.

Can I Drive With a Gearbox Fault?

🚨 Can you keep driving with a gearbox problem?

You can...

But you probably shouldn't.

A small issue today could become a complete gearbox failure tomorrow.

Continuing to drive with symptoms such as slipping gears, delayed engagement or unusual noises can increase damage and significantly increase repair costs.

If something doesn't feel right, it's always better to have it checked before it gets worse.

DSG stands for Direct Shift Gearbox.

It's a type of automatic gearbox that uses two clutches instead of one, allowing it to change gears incredibly quickly and smoothly.

They're popular because they:
