VW Golf R32 3.2 VR6 (2006) in today for a timing chain replacement 🔧

On these engines the timing chains sit at the rear of the engine, which means access is very limited and the engine needs to be removed to do the job properly. The VR6 uses two timing chains with guides and tensioners that keep the camshafts and crankshaft perfectly in sync.

A big job, but essential maintenance to keep this legendary VR6 running smoothly.

Wet Belt Replacement – Ford Transit
We’re currently carrying out a wet timing belt replacement on this Ford Transit.
On these engines, the timing belt runs inside the engine oil. Over time, the belt material can degrade and contaminate the oil system. If not replaced at the correct interval, it can lead to oil pressure issues and serious engine damage.
As part of this job, we also replace the oil sump pan. This is essential because debris from a deteriorating wet belt can collect in the sump and block the oil pickup. Replacing the sump ensures the system is properly cleaned and protected.
These engines also require the correct specification oil. Wet belt and timing chain systems are designed to run with specific low-SAPS, manufacturer-approved oil. Using the wrong oil or poor-quality oil can accelerate belt degradation and cause premature failure.
All parts used are genuine Ford components. We choose genuine parts because:
– They are designed specifically for this engine
– Correct material specification for oil-immersed operation
– Proper fit and long-term reliability
– Protects engine longevity and performance

On the right – the old injector.
It was severely seized in the cylinder head and had to be welded in order to extract it safely.
On the left – the new injector fitted and ready to operate as it should.
Modern common rail injectors work at extremely high pressures (often over 2000 bar) and deliver fuel with very precise timing. Because of this precision, even minor faults can affect engine performance, fuel economy, and emissions.
When injectors become carboned up or seize in place, removal can become complex and time-consuming which is why early diagnosis is important.
Common signs of injector issues:
– Rough idle
– Excess smoke
– Difficult starting
– Loss of power

⚠️ Wet Timing Belt – Don’t Risk It

Wet timing belts run inside the engine and are lubricated by oil. When they start to break down, rubber particles contaminate the oil system, reduce oil pressure, and can lead to serious engine damage.
If the belt fails completely, it can cause catastrophic engine damage and very costly repairs.
