There was a time when military auctions were full of working Land Rovers waiting for their next chapter.

Many arrived worn, battered, and carrying years of service behind them, but underneath it all was the same thing: simple engineering, mechanical honesty, and capability that modern vehicles still struggle to replicate.

We purchased and rebuilt a number of ex-MOD Series III Lightweights over the years, carefully adapting them for civilian life while trying to preserve the character that made them special in the first place.

This particular Lightweight, paired with its Sankey trailer, captures that era perfectly. Practical, purposeful, and built around utility rather than comfort or image.

Sometimes the right accessories make all the difference.

This INEOS Grenadier was already booked in with us when the customer mentioned that his son wanted to take advantage of the good weather last week and get away camping for the weekend.

So, we helped turn the plan into reality. We sourced the Rhino-Rack roof rack through INEOS, arranged the Terrafirma Terradactyl awning setup, and fitted everything in time so the Grenadier was ready for a weekend outdoors.

We can supply and fit accessories for the Grenadier whether it's a roof rack, awnings and other overland equipment. And if you prefer the DIY route, we can supply the accessories for you to fit yourself too.

The Land Rover 101 Forward Control was never intended to be ordinary.

Developed for the British Army and introduced in the 1970s, the 101 FC combined permanent four-wheel drive, a forward-control layout, and a 3.5-litre V8 engine into one of the most distinctive military Land Rovers ever built.
With exceptional ground clearance, remarkable off-road capability, and the ability to carry heavy loads across difficult terrain, the 101 quickly earned a reputation as a serious utility vehicle rather than a conventional 4x4.

These examples capture exactly why the Land Rover 101 Forward Control still holds such a following today. Functional, capable, and unmistakably purposeful.

A true piece of classic Land Rover and military vehicle history.

Not all processes should be explained in 30 seconds.

This is a look at what went into this Defender while it was with us. From routine servicing and fluid checks, through to underbody work and the process of reaching and replacing the spark plugs.

Modern vehicles demand a different level of attention, and sometimes that story takes a little longer to tell.

This Defender came in for a few jobs, one of them being a service.

On the surface, fairly routine. But with vehicles like this, there’s always more going on than you might expect.

Fluids are the lifeblood of any vehicle. Engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, washer fluid… all critical. And each one needs to be checked, assessed, and topped up correctly.

Jason worked through the process and used the correct specifications throughout.

During the test drive, a coolant level warning appeared after a few miles. After checking everything thoroughly, it turned out to be a faulty sensor. No leaks, no loss of coolant, just one of those things vehicles can come with modern systems.

Even the straightforward jobs aren’t always that simple. Classic or modern, the approach stays the same. Do it properly.

Keeping on top of the basics makes all the difference.

This Defender was in with us for a routine service, where we worked through the key checks that keep everything running as it should.

Fluid levels and condition, general inspection points across the vehicle, we made sure nothing was overlooked.

It might not be the flashiest work, but it’s what keeps these vehicles performing day in and day out.

Carrying out an oil change on this Defender meant going beyond what you might expect.

To access the sump plug, the underbody protection had to be removed first. Aluminium skid plates, liners, and multiple fixings all carefully taken off to reach the components beneath.

It’s a process that takes a bit of time, but it ensures everything is accessed, checked, and refitted exactly as it should be.

Once complete, everything is reassembled and secured back into place, maintaining the protection these vehicles are designed with.

As always, attention to detail matters at every stage.

Replacing spark plugs sounds like a simple job, but it rarely is. This is a condensed look at what it takes on a modern Defender.

Getting to the spark plugs involves removing far more than you might expect. Engine covers, cross-members, the wiper assembly and surrounding components all need to come away before access is even possible.

Only once that access is gained can the spark plugs be replaced. Then, of course, everything has to be carefully reassembled.

It’s a reflection of how far these vehicles have come. The level of engineering and capability in modern Defenders is on another level, but it does mean even routine maintenance can be more involved.

Behind every Defender, old or new, there’s always something worth appreciating.

We’ve spent decades around the original Defender, and they’ve helped define who we are. So when the new Defender arrived, like many, we weren’t quite sure what to make of it.

It was a clear departure. A long way from the simplicity that defined the original. But as more of them have come through the workshop, we’ve started to see things differently.

You begin to understand how they’ve been put together. The level of engineering, the integration of technology, and the attention to detail that isn’t always obvious at first glance.

And that’s where they start to grow on you. We had this one in recently and took the opportunity to capture a few of the details that stood out to us.

What are your thoughts on the modern Defender?
