This morning I was close to posting a down and depressing update about how lately I've not really been having much job satisfaction and that workload is causing a strain on myself due to being so busy. However I then thought of why I'm pushing myself to keep going and taking on more than I probably should. Myself and Skye are expecting our first child and judging by the scan photo today I think they'll be just as grumpy as me.

So this has caused me a massive headache over the last two days. I replaced the lower arms on a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso due to it failing the MOT on the rear bushes. The arms on these require the removal of the front end and sub frame supports to access one of the bolts (another story of the engineers that designed it needing to be shot for such nonsense). After I had finished putting everything back together the front wheels were now pointing inwards by about 30 degrees and the car drove absolutely shocking. Unsafe levels of shocking. The arms came complete with ball joints already attached and on first glance identical to each other. Turns out there are 2 different ball joint sizes for these cars and no way of knowing via a parts diagram or catalogue. Luckily for me, replacement of the new but incorrect ball joints didn't need the front end removing all over again. The wheels returned to the natural position and the car drives as it should again.

People wonder why I hate on French cars so much, this is one of many reasons why.

Special place in hell for the idiot that came up with this idea. Nissan Qasqai bottom arm replacement, did the passenger side either early this year or some point last year and it came off no bother at all. Come to do the driver side today and the "captive" nut decided to no longer be captive. The placement of the two middle bolts is already a shocking feat of engineering but to not even make the nuts properly captive boggles me. Its just an outer shroud that sits on the chassis leg but being in England soon rusts and gets a bit weak meaning it starts spinning in place rather than unscrewing. A trip back home to grab my welder and the nut is now a true captive design as it should have been from the start.

Typical French starter motor replacement this morning on a Renault Modus, barely any room to work in but unlike the French I didn't give up and raise the white flag. This afternoon another driveshaft, on a Transit today instead which went surprisingly straight forward with no issues. Then I went to a non start that turned out to be a loose connector for the starter motor which had been replaced elsewhere recently.
