Trailers are often the bit of the fleet that gets overlooked until something actually stops working.

Ramps getting slow, damaged air lines, lights playing up, worn brakes, suspension faults, cracked mudguards and doors that need adjusting — individually they might not seem like much, but they soon add up.

We repair and maintain trailers at WH Commercials, and we can also collect and deliver them if getting a unit and driver over to us is a pain.

MOT preparation.

There’s no point sending a truck for test and just hoping for the best.

We’d rather get it in beforehand, go through it properly and deal with anything that’s likely to cause a problem. Lights, brakes, suspension, steering, emissions and the smaller defects that can easily turn into a fail.

We can also put the vehicle over our roller brake tester as part of the preparation, so we know what the brakes are actually doing before it goes anywhere near the test lane.

If you’ve got trucks coming up for MOT, give us a bit of notice and we can get them booked in.

Sunday’s a good day to get ahead of next week rather than waiting for the phone call Monday morning.

If you run your own trucks, you’ll know how quickly a small defect can mess up the following day’s work. Something picked up on a driver’s walk-round today gives you a chance to get it sorted before the vehicle is due out again.

That’s one of the reasons we’ve introduced our walk-round check app. Drivers can complete their checks and record defects properly, giving the operator a clear paper trail and helping get problems through to the workshop quicker.

We’ve currently got room to take on new customers for regular PMI inspections and fleet maintenance, and the walk-round system can form part of the setup.

Sunday is often a good chance to get on top of the jobs that are harder to fit in during a working week.

One area worth checking as we head towards the colder months is batteries and starting systems. A battery that’s been getting away with it through summer soon shows itself when the temperature drops, especially on vehicles with plenty of electrical equipment fitted.

If a truck is getting slower to turn over, needing the odd jump start or throwing up low-voltage faults, it’s worth getting it checked before it becomes a Monday morning problem.

WH Commercials can check the charging and starting system and replace batteries where needed.
