Halfway through the week and right at the Pallet Track peak… it can only be Mer-Curt-Wednesday!

🚛 Another order in the book… and another big thank you is in order!

A huge thank you to Scott Williams at Euro Commercials for yet another order and, more importantly, for the continued support and confidence in the team at JC Payne.

It’s always appreciated when customers keep coming back, particularly in an industry where there are plenty of options available. Repeat business is something we never take for granted, and we’re proud to continue building on relationships that have developed over many years.

This latest order is another great example of the collaboration between Euro Commercials, Mercedes-Benz in the UK, Massey Wilcox Transport Ltd and ourselves — bringing together the right chassis, the right conversion and, ultimately, the right vehicle for the job.

There’s plenty more to come from this one, so keep an eye out as the builds make their way through the factory! 👀

🚛 What a rare beast this is…

This one has certainly been a journey! 😄

The conversation originally started with the customer looking for what was, on the face of it, a fairly straightforward 5-metre drop-side.

Then came the small matter of the loads needing protection from the elements. A simple tarp cover wasn’t going to cut it due to the nature of the goods being transported, so the conversation moved towards a rather more traditional old-school tilt body.

That could have been the end of it…

But where’s the fun in that? 👀

After many conversations, ideas, requirements and the inevitable “while we’re at it…”, the specification evolved once again — eventually becoming this rather impressive bespoke curtainsider.

The clever bit? A front opening flap, allowing the vehicle to accommodate and transport items up to 7 metres in length.

What began life as “we just need a 5-metre drop-side” ended up as a completely bespoke solution, designed around exactly what the customer needed.

And that, in our eyes, is what bespoke is all about.

Start with the problem. Understand the application. Keep talking. Find the solution.

Beautiful. 👌

🚛 You’ve got to appreciate the old-school colour scheme…

There’s something about a classic Harris DAF in traditional colours that just looks right. No need for fancy effects or over-the-top graphics — sometimes the old-school look does all the talking! 👌

And whilst there may be “nothing special to see here”… we all know that’s never quite the case.

A curtain body, cantilever tail-lift and a bespoke roof-mounted load restraint system, all built around the customer's specific requirements.

Standard? Maybe.

Straightforward? Never quite! 😄

It’s another great example of the variety that comes through the factory every day — and proof that even a relatively conventional build can have a few bespoke touches thrown in for good measure.

Looking good, working hard and finished in a colour scheme that takes us back a few years…

🚛 Just a few different types of load restraint on show during this morning’s stroll through the factory…

At first glance, they may all look like they’re doing much the same job, but every system has been designed around a specific application, load type and customer requirement.

From rails and straps to specialist securing systems, internal restraint solutions and everything in between, there’s certainly no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to keeping a load secure.

It’s another great example of the sheer variety of work moving through the factory every day. Different chassis, different body types, different industries… and, of course, different ways of making sure whatever goes in the back stays exactly where it’s supposed to! 😄

The detail is often in the bits you don’t immediately notice — but getting the right solution for the job can make all the difference.

Different loads. Different applications. Different solutions.

Just another day at the office… 👌

You could say we’re a little Stellantis-heavy in PDI this morning… 😅

Rows and rows of Citroëns as far as the eye can see, all patiently awaiting their final checks and sign-off.

And then, right in the middle of it all, sits one solitary Mercedes-Benz Sprinter… looking slightly confused and wondering when its mates are turning up! 😂

Oh, and if you look closely enough, there’s also a lonely Fiat lurking in the distance, just to make sure the Mercedes doesn’t feel completely isolated.

It’s always great to see such a variety of vehicles passing through the factory — although this morning, Stellantis has definitely taken control of the PDI department!

Don’t worry Mercedes… we haven’t forgotten about you! 😉

The process… 🔧⚡

Two bespoke Maxus eDeliver 9 tippers making their way through the build process, complete with tool pods and cages.

And just look at that colour… 👀

The cab and body combination, beautifully finished in a rather rare shade of green, certainly makes these two stand out from the crowd!

As with any bespoke build, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes before the finished product comes together — from fabrication and body construction through to the finishing touches that turn a chassis into a purpose-built working vehicle.

Two very different-looking builds in progress, but both designed around the customer’s requirements and applications.

We’ll be keeping an eye on these as they progress because something tells us they’re going to look rather smart when they're finished! 😎

It’s not even “FrISUZU” and yet here we are… another little Grafter making its way through our Special Projects Vehicles Department! 😍

These things are starting to become a regular feature around here — and we’re certainly not complaining!

This one is now progressing through the various stages of its build, with the team once again putting their skills to work on something a little different from the everyday.

Small in stature perhaps… but as the name suggests, more than capable of getting on with the job! 💪

A big thank you to Norfolk Truck & Van Ltd, Isuzu Truck UK and James Cooper for the continued business and support.

Keep them coming… although we may have to start inventing a new day of the week for all these Isuzus! 😂

What an achievement! 👏

A massive congratulations to our Financial Director, Stephen Horrocks, on a fantastic achievement.

Steve joined the business back in 2019, and from day one it was clear that he wasn't going to be the stereotypical Finance Director who stayed hidden away behind a desk and a spreadsheet! He joined JC Payne as Finance Director in November 2019, supporting the business and Board through its continued growth.

Whether it was jumping in a vehicle and moving it around the compound, helping dispatch a new build, or generally getting involved wherever he could, Steve dived straight in.

That willingness to understand the business from the ground up — and occasionally get his hands dirty in the process — is something that has never gone unnoticed.

The business genuinely couldn't be more proud of what you've achieved, Steve.

Even if your bean counting can be incredibly annoying at times… 😂

A fantastic achievement and one that is thoroughly deserved.

And to complete the Friday Factory Foray… 👀

A rather rare colour making an appearance on this E-Deliver 9 Maxus caged tipper, currently making its way through our Special Project Vehicle (SPV) department.

This colour isn’t available from the factory… so naturally, we thought why not paint the lot! 😂🎨

Caged tipper, tool pod, bespoke colour and a fair bit of SPV magic going on behind the scenes.

Another one that’s certainly not going to blend into the crowd!
