As well as the usual welding supplies we hold comprehensive stocks of all sorts of Abrasives. We have one 240v finishing machine with fine and medium fleece wheels for finishing and graining stainless Steels, and 60 and 120grit zirconiated belts to fit the inflatable wheel. The kit comes with a pump for the inflatable wheel, and a roller to take belts for tube finishing! This one only £495+vat.

Sometimes all you need is simple, robust and well specified power? The Awelco Unimig 450swf is a 450amp transformer switch MIG with built in cooler for the water cooled torch. The separate wire feed unit has a 4 roll feed assembly with rollers for 1/1.2mm solid wire, and 1.2/1.6mm cored wire. The feed unit has robust wheels fitted as standard so that it can easily be moved around with a 5mtr interconnecting cable assembly. This machine offers 32 voltage steps for fine adjustment of heat input, and as can be seen from the rating plate could weld all day at 310amps, even on the hottest day of the year! All for £3,250 + vat.

Having endured the hotest day on record we wonder how many people discovered the limitations of what their welding machine can cope with? Does everybody realise that the rating plate mounted somewhere on your machine tells you everything? The CAT DZ261 inverter MIG for example can weld off a 110v supply on site at 140amps for 4 minutes in every 10 minute cycle at 40 degrees C. Compare that to the ESAB Rebel EMP215ic which will only manage 130amps for 2 minutes in every 10 minute cycle at 40 degrees C, so only half the work rate! Please remember some machine manufacturers trade on history, not how good their current range really is?

There are any number of inverter MIG welders that can be used as a lift TIG welder as well. The compromise with most is that they usually use a TIG torch with a manual gas valve, which at best is often clumsy to use and prone to wasting gas. That is why we like the Weco Discovery 161MF machine, because it uses a TIG torch that connects to the MIG euro connection that utilises the gas solenoid in the machine, and the lift arc starting. You really need to try it before buying a machine without this feature!
