Calling all citizen scientists! If you’ve a passion for marine-life, the environment and conservation, then we’ve opportunities for anybody working on study projects or who wants to get involved in conservation programmes.

Our private wildlife and dive charters take you deep into the tidal waters of Loch Sunart and Loch Teacuis, both part of a wider Marine Protected Area – while our custodianship of the Isle of Carna offers a number of dedicated conservation activities, from specialised surveys and mapping, to clearing invasive species.

The team at Ardnamurchan Charters have played a key role in launching the Scottish charity, Carna Coast and Communities. This has been established to protect and regenerate the rich biodiversity of the Isle of Carna and the surrounding land, coasts, and waters of Loch Sunart, Loch Teacuis and Loch Drom Bhuidhe.

A principal objective of the charity is to work with young people to help them develop the skills that sustain local communities and protect the environment. Our wildlife charters promote the importance of environmental protection and development, while providing a fascinating introduction to the wildlife and sea-life in and around this beautiful part of the Scottish west coast. They are ideal for anybody – young or old – wanting to learn more about these vital initiatives.

Dolphins and Porpoises are a common sight along the west coast of Scotland. We often spot them on our Wildlife Charters, either frolicking around the boat or hunting for food.

Of course, dolphins are just one of the native species that you can see: there’s also porpoises, seals, eagles, red deer, otters and a host of other bird and sea-life. We’ve a choice of two- and four-hour charters, taking in the waters of Loch Sunart and Loch Teacuis, in the safe hands of skipper and local wildlife expert, Andy Jackson.

We thought that it was about time to introduce the team behind Ardnamurchan Charters: Andy and Alison Jackson. Andy is a trained engineer, experienced diver and qualified skipper, is passionate about wildlife and conservation (he was a founder member of the marine charity caolas) and is active in local tourism and conservation groups.

Alison is a retired nurse, who runs the self-catering Laga Lodge, self catering Loch Sunart and, along with Andy, helps to manage the conservation Isle of Carna, including its two holiday cottages. Together, they have decades of local knowledge and experience in marine and wildlife based tourism and offer sustainable, low impact holidays for anybody wanting to explore this stunning part of the Scottish west coast.

The harbourfront of Tobermory is perhaps one of the most recognisable in the UK, with its long row of brightly coloured house, shops, hotels and cafés.

Apparently, the trend started in the early 1960s, when Bobby MacLeod the owner of the Mishnish Hotel decided to paint the front of his building bright pink to attract the growing numbers of tourists that were beginning to visit the town. The owners of other buildings slowly followed suit, until by the early 1970s almost the entire harbourfront resembled the chocolate-box vista that we see today.

You can discover more about the fascinating history of Tobermory on one of our charters from Laga Bay, where you’ll be in for a treat of information about local history, geology, culture and nature.

Some places are best explored from the water.

From the deck of Laurenca 2, you'll experience Loch Sunart from a completely different perspective. Ancient woodlands tumble down to the shoreline, distant peaks rise above hidden sea lochs and wildlife appears where you least expect it.

Slow down, take in the scenery and enjoy one of Scotland's most beautiful coastlines.
