The madness of wetbelts !

Rubber cam belts that run inside the engine soaked in oil, they used to live outide the engine under plastic covers. As the belt deteriorates little bits of belt mix with the oil blocking oilways and causing damage, thats progress !
The first sign of problems for this Transit owner was problems with braking as the brake vacuum pump disintégrated due to oil blockage etc. The wet belt was not due for a change as it was well within recomended schedule, but it still failed !

Vehicles now have a very short life expectancy , when I started driving (first car was Morris Marina) we were lucky to get 80000m from an engine, then at the turn of last century Peugeot and VW etc showed us how 400000 was easily attainable, now we have progressed to cars that struggle to do 75000, thats progress folks
