Georg Tappert (German, 1880-1957) was born on this day.

Son of a tailor, Tappert had always been in touch with fashion. He underwent an apprenticeship as a tailor and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. In 1905 he had his first personal exhibition in Berlin. He was one of the founders of the New Secession group, which was formed in 1910. In 1913 he became a teacher at the Royal Art School in Berlin. In 1933, he was fired from his teaching post, as his works were deemed “degenerate” by the N***s. About 100 of his works were lost or destroyed.
After the war he received the Distinguished Service Cross in recognition of his educational work.
