1. Using intermediaries (hotel concierge or personal driver) to book your yacht rental. Each of these will take an additional fee from the cost of renting the yacht. For example; you might pay $2000 to rent a yacht and $400-$800 to use the hotel concierge and/or the private driver.
2. Believing all costs are included in the cost of the yacht rental. Only the cost of the boat and its crew are included. There will be a separate charge for food, alcohol, marina/dockage fees, and tips for your crew members.
3. Not getting a estimated fuel cost. The fuel costs associated with running a yacht can quickly deplete a budget. Before departing, it would be prudent to give your captain a copy of your planned itinerary along with a request for a detailed fuel estimate.
4. Leaving children unsupervised while they are aboard your rented yacht. Your captains and deckhands are only responsible for safely operating your yacht. Therefore if you plan to bring your young children on this cruise, you must either provide adult supervision at all times or hire a nanny.
5. Over-drinking while on your cruise. Alcohol is absorbed into your bloodstream more rapidly when exposed to sun, heat and the constant motion of a boat traveling across open ocean. While enjoying yourself is part of the fun, drinking too much can lead to severe seasickness which will shorten your days voyage.
6. Booking late. If you wait until the last moment to make reservations for your full-day cruise, you will likely lose some flexibility and increase your costs. By booking ahead, you should find better pricing and a wider range of choices.
7. Miscalculating travel time. When planning your day, do not forget to leave enough time for each leg of your journey. A longer distance than expected may require more time in transit, leaving less time for relaxation or other activities during your day-long cruise.
8. Underestimating whether or not all of the toys and amenities listed will actually be available onboard your rented yacht. Make sure you check the list of toys and equipment available on your yacht before signing any contracts.
9. Failing to clearly communicate your plans for the day with your captain. It would be wise to sit down with your captain before departure and go over your itinerary and expectations for the day's events. He/she has knowledge about the local area that he/she could share with you to enhance your experience on your full-day cruise.
