From Muamua Village in Vanuabalavu, Lau, 19-year-old Solomone Vakatawa is proving that determination and hard work can build a brighter future.
Currently completing his Certificate in Welding and Fabrication at the Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD) Nadave, Solomone is undertaking his practical attachment with an engineering firm in Valelevu after completing six months of classroom learning.
As the eldest son in his family, his goal is to finish his studies, secure meaningful employment or start his own business, and help provide for his loved ones.
His journey has not been easy. As a day scholar, Solomone woke at 4:00 a.m. each morning and caught three buses from Namadi Heights just to arrive at school by 8:00 a.m.
Following in the footsteps of his father, a proud CATD Nadave alumnus, Solomone says one of the greatest lessons he has learned is the importance of good behaviour, time management and strong values.
At CATD Nadave, education goes beyond technical skills. Guided by its philosophy of developing the head, heart and hands, the College equips students with practical trade skills while nurturing character, integrity and values that prepare them for life and work.
Solomone's story is a reminder that with determination, discipline and the right training, tomorrow's opportunities are within reach.
