Valmet Automotive is a leading service provider in battery systems, roof and kinematic systems and vehicle manufacturing. Valmet Automotive has 3 battery plants - in Salo and Uusikaupunki in Finland, and in Kirchardt in Germany. Our main customers are currently Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. Valmet Automotive manufactures the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, and has manufacturing contracts for the Mercedes-AMG GT, Lightyear 0 and Sono Motors Sion. Valmet Automotive provides convertible roof systems with locations in Germany and Poland for e.g. Mercedes-Benz, BMW/MINI and VW/Bentley.

How can electric vehicle components be reused more efficiently?⚙️

In collaboration with Turku University of Applied Sciences, Valmet Automotive is participating in a research project exploring how electric vehicle dismantling can be conducted more efficiently to enable more components to be reused.

Valmet Automotive brings strong automotive manufacturing and process expertise to the project. Our aim is to develop a safe, efficient, and scalable industrial dismantling process that enables component reuse and more effective material circulation.

The project also explores how automation, digitalization, and new production solutions can be used in future dismantling processes. Practical dismantling trials help identify current challenges and develop solutions that can be implemented at a larger industrial scale.

By combining expertise across organizations, we can help advance more resource-efficient solutions for the automotive industry. ♻️

It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from the CAVS community to our Uusikaupunki plant! 🌟

CAVS (Common Armoured Vehicle System) is a multinational program based on the Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles, bringing together seven partner nations: Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Norway. Patria is serving as the prime developer and supplier for CAVS vehicles, with some of the vehicles manufactured at Valmet Automotive’s Uusikaupunki plant.

The visit was a great opportunity to showcase our industrial capabilities, manufacturing expertise, and readiness to support demanding vehicle programs.

Discussions highlighted how Patria’s proven vehicle platform, combined with our scalable production, secure technology transfer, strong partnerships, and close international cooperation, can contribute to this program’s long-term success.

A glimpse into future industries 🚀

This week we welcomed students from Tampereen Konekerho, the student association for mechanical and vehicle engineering students at TAMK, to our Uusikaupunki plant. During the visit, they learned about Valmet Automotive as a company and employer.

Highlights from the visit included our professionals sharing their interesting career journeys and what their jobs actually involve in this unique environment. The production tour in the plant facilities also gave students a closer look at the wide range of work and expertise behind industrial manufacturing.

At Valmet Automotive, we want everyone to have up-to-date information on safety, wherever they work. 🌟

As many of our people work in a production environment, we need communication channels that reach them where they are. That’s why we introduced 66 info screens at our Uusikaupunki plant in 2022, initially to strengthen safety communication. Since then, we’ve also used them to share production updates and company news, keeping everyone engaged and aware of important topics.

Since 2021, our lost-time injury frequency (LTIF) has decreased by 96%. This reflects our long-term commitment to safety and the work we do together to strengthen our safety culture. We encourage our people to ask questions, speak up about potential hazards, and take an active role in making our workplace safe every day.

It’s all about collaboration 🤝

As Valmet Automotive expands its operations, collaboration with our new industry customers is extremely valuable.

With over 55 years of experience in vehicle contract manufacturing and production planning, we have entered the bus and coach sector together with Carrus Delta.

Technology transfer has been an essential part of learning and competence development at Valmet Automotive’s start of production of Volvo Buses single-deck coaches at the Uusikaupunki plant.

How can industrial capacity strengthen national security of supply? ⚙️

This week, Valmet Automotive welcomed around 50 representatives from companies and public authorities to our Uusikaupunki plant as part of the National Emergency Supply Organization’s regional preparedness days.

During the visit, we discussed our role in security of supply and showcased the capacity and adaptability of our plant. The extensive production space can accommodate products of different types and sizes, while our proximity to the harbor and EU and NATO logistics networks supports resilient supply chains, even in exceptional circumstances.

With more than 55 years of industrial experience, we have managed networks of up to 700 suppliers and delivered more than 25,000 product variants for a single vehicle, experience that provides a strong foundation for flexible, industrial-scale manufacturing in a multi-customer, multi-product environment.

Energy Saving Week 2026 is here!⚡

Our Uusikaupunki plant is one of Finland's largest production facilities, so even heating the buildings alone requires a significant amount of energy. That’s why we continuously look for new ways to use energy more wisely and make our operations more energy-efficient.

This year, alongside Energy Saving Week, we are taking part in Motiva’s ETJ+ Joint Project for companies starting their ETJ+ journey. Valmet Automotive is one of 12 companies selected to participate, and we are currently building the foundations for our ETJ+ energy management system.

So far, this work has included:

🔹 developing our energy policy and documentation
🔹 developing our approach to energy efficiency planning
🔹 self-assessments, training and peer learning

Taking part in the programme is one step in our long-term work to make energy efficiency part of our everyday operations and management. Although we have been working on energy efficiency already for decades, there are always new opportunities to reduce energy consumption.

During Energy Saving Week, we are highlighting our work on energy efficiency and encouraging everyone to think about how we can use energy more wisely in our own work. ✨

Driving energy transition through practical action.⚡

We already use 97% renewable energy across our operations, including 100% renewable electricity, an important milestone on our journey toward lower emissions.

Our remaining Scope 1 and 2 emissions are mainly linked to heating and facility fuel use, and we are actively evaluating alternative heating technologies at sites that still rely on natural gas.

To continuously improve energy efficiency, we participate in Finland’s Energy Efficiency Agreement, coordinated by Motiva, and carry out comprehensive energy audits at least every four years. In 2025, we also joined Finland’s Energy Saving Week to promote responsible energy use in everyday operations. Progress is built step by step through concrete actions, continuous improvement, and long-term commitment.✨

From project kick-off to manufacturing launch in just about four months. 🚀

Our cooperation with Patria shows what fast, reliable industrialization can look like in the defense industry. As Patria prepares for significant future demand in its Protected Mobility business, Valmet Automotive is supporting additional armored vehicle manufacturing capacity at our Uusikaupunki facility in Finland. Valmet Automotive was a logical choice for Patria as the cooperation between the companies started first time ten years ago when Valmet Automotive designed hatches for this particular Patria's 6x6 vehicle.

This reference case highlights how decades of high-volume contract manufacturing experience, proven ramp-up capability, and secure technology transfer can help bring complex products to serial production with speed and flexibility.

“The pace we have had in this cooperation with Valmet Automotive is something different what defense industry has been used to,” says Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area.

The 6x6 pre-series production is moving full speed ahead in Uusikaupunki, with the first vehicles already completed as seen in the photo.
