964 BACKDATE PROJECTS ARE PROGRESSING

Our 964 Porsche Backdate projects are progressing. For those who are not familiar what is a Backdate, here it is: We take a 1990´s Porsche 964 completely in pieces and modify the chassis and interior to look like early 1970´s Porsche 911. Technically the car is fully overhauled or even rebuild and it typically gets a lot of different performance upgrades depending on customer specification.

Today we had an important day. We had one project chassis (CC2) ready and fully painted after 4 months of intensive work. We took the next, ready dismantled, project car (CC3) to our sheet metal/paint shop and took the CC2 chassis from there back to our main workshop for final assembly.

CC2 is a full "Singer" style 964 C2 backdate with beautiful "Gun Metal Grey" exterior. The interior will be completely new and rebuild to 1970´s 911 retro style by Lakewell. The black / dark brown leather together with tan alcantara, looks great. The 3,6 liter engine is rebuild and has a full Cargraphic exhaust system and a stage 4 performance package. The G50 transmission will be overhauled. The suspension is rebuild and the car will have fully adjustable Bilstein suspension. All maintenance parts have been changed. The wheels are modern 17-inch Fuchs wheels. The old Porsche A/C system will be deleted and replaced with a new electric air conditioning system. There is a strong retro tendency in the whole design. The interior mat material is from the 1950´s 365 Porsche. The seats are like early 1970´s Recaro sport seats. The instrument faces have been modified to follow the visual image of the famous 356/early 911 "Green instruments". There is a long list of other nice details. CC2 assembly project and test drives should be ready for customer delivery in July 2026. The car is fully built according to the unique customer specification.

During the spring our team will have the fascinating job to put this puzzle together to become a high specification dream Porsche, with old classic spirit and looks but with more modern technics and handling.

THE SUMMER IS OVER AND WINTER IS COMING

The summer 2025 is over and the winter is coming. Next week we will get snow! We had one of the last test drive days in our base on the first of November. It was the only dry day of the week and still with + 4 C ° degrees.

We drove our 1955 Pre-A 356 Cabriolet after the final engine adjustments. We drove the car in the late afternoon which was dark like in the middle of the night. Our small old 6 -volt lights were quite humble in the highway traffic with the enormous led lights of the modern lorries. Our small cabrio was running fine in the highway speeds with its narrow 135-140 wide (trailer/ motorcycle?) tires. Not really the optimal conditions for a small beautiful cabrio, but it was a great adventure. Nice after Halloween evening ! 🥵

We also drove two customer cars. The one was a 1980 911 SC from our old customer. The car has a high end 3,2 conversion and 46 mm PMO carburetors - Great specification. Now we upgraded the complete pedal system to Rennline pedals and 964 based race throttle system. The driving feeling of the car changed completely. Now the throttle is really sensitive to take the best out of the car and power unit. 😃

Our beloved 1965 911 race car is resting in it base and waiting for the new season. Historic racing is as sophisticated as modern racing like WRC, WEC and F1. We are now waiting the new technical rules for 2026 for our race car which got its FIA homologation 60 year ago. This changing of the rules every year or two is the disease of the motorsports.😡

After busy summer we will have a busy winter ahead of us to complete two high end 964 Backdates for our customers. Here you have pictures of the status off the CC2 chassis, engine and suspension. Now it is a real puzzle to get the car together again. At the same we work with similar CC3 project which should also be on the road in summer 2026. It is great to be busy.😃🇫🇮🚗

2025 RACE SEASON FINISHED AT KYMIRING

The long 2025 racing season for Team Carrera Classic finished at Kymiring in Finland on September 20-21. Our season started with 2.0 Litre Cup in Barcelona in March, or actually with test drive already in February in Kuusamo on ice. We continued the season in Spa and Dijon. Then came Le Mans Classic in July. We drove the Historic Grand Race at Ahvenisto in August and finally the Historic KymiRace. In 7 months we have raced and tested on 23 days on track and in total we got about 3300 track km.

The season start was difficult in Barcelona, Spa was neither easy for us. Both were wet races. In Dijon the speed was good. Risto even lead the 2.0 Litre Cup race before the driver change. Jussi drove Le Mans alone and that went fine. 9th in the handicap race out of 70 + cars was good. Ahvenisto race was also wet and due to self generated driving mistakes "the race was bad, but the car was good" as Kimi used to say. Kymiring was again a wet race on Saturday, but dry on Sunday. The results were good. We won both the wet and dry F/B class races. Overall the season was good for us. Somehow it feels that it has now been more wet races during the season than before. It is either the climate change or the fact that some of us are getting older and would prefer more the dry races.

KymiRing was opened in 2019 and it is Northern Europe’s only GP Circuit that was desinged to fulfill the highest FIA and FIM requirements. The track is 4,5 kilometers long with 21 curves and has an altitude difference of 18 meters. The length of the main straight is 1.1 km. It is the longest GP straight in Europe. We have driven the track first time in 2020. Then the track was already fine, but the infrastructure was not ready at all. Now the big pit building is ready and the paddock area is mostly covered with tarmac. Kymiring is a great racetrack to drive and the pit facilities are now by far the most impressive in Finland. Thank you very much for the organizers and all the voluntary staff which made KymiRace possible. 👍🚗🇫🇮😀

Carrera Classic in Classic Porsche Magazine 2024 / 2025

Carrera Classic has got a lot of good international publicity in the one of the most important classic Porsche magazines in the world during the last twelve months.

Classic Porsche is published by the same team that makes the market-leading 911 & Porsche World magazine. Classic Porsche is one of the the few magazines which exclusively covers air-cooled Porsches, from the earliest prototypes through five decades of stunning road and race cars. Every issue is packed full of showcase features focusing on standout examples from the Porsche back catalogue, as well as profiles and interviews with key Porsche personnel, legendary racing drivers, rare archive photographs, event reports, owner stories, in-depth articles focusing on restorations, Porsche-specific technologies and much more. This UK magazine is read also a lot in US and around Europe.

The editor-in-chief Dan Furr and the photographer Chris Wallbank visited Carrera Classic in Maalahti in August 2024. Since then there has been several large articles about our cars and also a large company profile article. The Carrera Classic company profile was also published in the 911 & Porsche World. Three of our cars have now entered to the front page of the magazine which has been a real honor. First one was our 2.0 Litre Cup race car in December 2024 edition, then the Conda Green 911 E in August 2025 and the 1966 Polo Red 911 in the just published September 2025 edition. Our first 964 Backdate project CC1 was presented in September 2024 in the magazine and in beginning of 2025 in the Air-Cooled Restomods special edition.

We are very proud of this international recognition which our restoration business and quality of the work we are doing is having trough these articles. We are also very impressed by the professional dedication Dan Furr, Steve Bennet and Chris Wallbank have had when they have documented the stories of our cars. 🚗🇫🇮😀

Le Mans Classic, July 4-6. 2025

Le Mans Classic 2025 was driven on July 4-6 on the 13,6 km Circuit De La Sarthe in Le Mans in France. This legendary track has been the venue for the Le Mans 24 hours race for over 100 years. Now Le Mans Classic brought together about 800 historic racing cars and 1000 drivers to celebrate the history of endurance racing. There was 238.000 spectators during the 3 days.

Team Carrera Classic was participating now the second time in the Le Mans Classic Porsche Race. As in 2023 LMC we had a single driver crew. Jussi drove the whole race. The race is for Porsche racing cars from 1965 to 1981. This age bracket means that there we many early 911´s, a lot of 911 ST´s and different versions of 911 RS´s and RSR´s. There were also 906 and 910 racers from the late 1960´s. In the top of the grid you had 935 turbo monsters and a 917. The speed and power differences of the cars were big, from 170hp to 800hp.

The Porsche race had two qualification sessions on Friday and a 45 minutes race on Saturday. We had some technical concerns with our engine on Thursday evening before the qualifications. The decision was not to take a risk and use instead the spare engine. Our technical team: Jan and Erik with help of a French team Dayraut, change the engine on the paddock in 3,5 hours. Great job. The qualification went fine even we had some small technical challenges in both sessions. In the first session we were 60 /81 and in the second in the evening we were 54 /81. The actual race went well, but unfortunately the safety car came to the track in about halfway of the race. There was an accident after the second chicane on the Mulsanne straight and then a lot of oil on the track. The race was finished behind the safety car. Our result was anyway good. In the overall race we were 39 /81 and in the performance race where the engine power is taken in account we were 9 /81. Our car and the fresh Rugen engine were running well. Our top speed in the race was 236 km/h which is a good speed for a 60 year old car with a small 2 liter engine.

The Finnish participation to the event was limited. In the actual races there was Team Carrera Classic in the Porsche Race and our own "reserve driver" Markus Palttala who was driving in the Endurance Legends Race with a Porsche 996 Bi Turbo GT2-R 2003. This is the very same car Markus was driving himself already in 2003 as a young professional!

2025 GRAND PRIX DE L’AGE D’OR, June 6-8.

Carrera Classic racing season continued in beginning of June with the GRAND PRIX DE L’AGE D’OR / GRAND PRIX OF THE GOLDEN AGE at Dijon-Prenois racetrack. This event is the oldest historic car meeting in France as the first Coupes de l’Age d’Or was held on the Rouen-les-Essarts circuit in 1964 as a curtain-raiser to the French Formula 1 Grand Prix. Later the event moved to Dijon. This very technical 3,8 km track was also the place where Keke Rosberg won his first F1 race in 1982, 4 seconds in front of Alain Prost.

For us Dijon was a good weekend. It was the first 2.0 Litre Cup race this season which was driven in dry conditions. We started with five good sessions in the Peter Auto test day on Thursday. In the qualifying on Friday we were finally 11th out of 27 cars. The final start position is based on average of the two drivers. There were many disqualifications due to track limits, which helped a bit. Risto drove again well and was 4th fastest driver on the track in the qualification.

The race was on Saturday. We started as 11th and Risto started very well. By the 9th lap he had taken us to the second position which he kept for the next 12 laps, until number one car came to the pit. This is when he moved to the lead for the next 3 laps before the pit stop. After the pit stop Jussi left to the second 45 min stint at the position 7. The differences between the cars were very small and many cars had their better drivers allocated to the second shift. Jussi drove for a while on the position 8, but then the faster cars were reaching us and the final position was the predictable 16/27. Risto´s best lap time was finally 6th fastest in the race. We were lucky to have Nicolas de Buttet from Dijon Auto Racing to help us during the race.

Overall we were very happy with the race. Car was working well, no technical problems and the drivers did their job well without any bigger mistakes. This was nice result after two difficult races in Barcelona and SPA.

2025 SPA CLASSIC, May 23.-25

The 2.0 Litre Cup season continued at SPA Classic on May 23.-25. The SPA track is to many drivers (Including many F1 drivers) the best track in the world. The 7 km track goes up and down in the beautiful hills of Ardenne mountain area in Belgium. Elevation change on the track is about 100m. The track has very fast sections and turns as well as some very tight and slow corners. The only issue with SPA is that it is almost a rule that there will be rain. This year was not a exception.

We came to SPA on Thursday for the August track day which has been organized many years by Belgian Porsche dealer just before the SPA Classic. We had a good test session until our brake disks stop working in the afternoon. This happens now and then. The disks do not have any real wear, but they just suddenly start vibrating very strongly. This problem is known but quite unpredictable. When this happens there is nothing else to do than to change the disks. Better it happened in the tests than at the race.

The private practice and qualifying were on Friday. For us as a two driver team the short 30 min qualifying in SPA is a challenge. The 7 km long track means that Risto can have max 2 timed laps and Jussi 3 or max 4 laps. Already in qualifying it became clear that the level of the 28 car fleet was very high. We were 19/28 in the qualifying. The race was on Saturday and it was driven in full vet conditions. Risto was driving well and came in on the 5th position. But the very small differences between the cars and our 20 second handicap meant that Jussi got to the track only in position 17. Our final position was then 21/28. The car worked well and we were happy with our own driving, thus the final result reflects mainly the high level of competition in this series. Our next race is in the coming weekend at the GRAND PRIX DE L’AGE D’OR in Dijon, France.

2025 RACE SEASON STARTED IN BARCELONA IN MARCH

The 2.0 Litre Cup season and the overall official Peter Auto season started on March 20-23th in Barcelona, Spain. This was the earliest season start we have had in the 2.0 Litre Cup in many years. For us from Finland this meant that our last tests before Barcelona, were done with spiked tyres. The race event: Espiritu de Montjuïc was held on the legendary Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya which was opened in 1991. This is a demanding FI and Moto GP track with 4.7 km of technical corners and long fast straights.

The conditions for the weekend were demanding. The open test day on Thursday was a rainy day. It became very obvious that the relativily new rack surface had quite a lot of rubber in the main braking areas and the whole track was extremely slippery when it was wet. The rainy weather continued trough the whole weekend. Heavy showers, then dry for a moment and then rain again. For us the changing conditions were a real challenge both in terms of driving, strategy and the chassi setup. There was in total 27 cars enrolled the race and the fleet was very competitive. Our car was fast. We had the 2. highest topspeed in Qualifying and 5. fastest in the Race. Our qualifying as awhole was disappointing with 22. out of 25 cars started. The race began on the wet track and changed then to the dry in the end of the race. Our full vet set-up was not the best in these conditions. The race result was finally 18/25. This left quite a lot to improve for the next races. The season will continue in May first at Botniaring, then SPA and Dijon in the beginning of June.

In Barcelona it was clearly visible how the historic racing is changing. There were more and more cars coming from the history of the serious endurance racing and the cars are more and more “recent”. Porsches are well presented. As a example there was the race start for the Endurance Legends for the GT2 cars from the period 2000-2010. In this fleet of 33 cars there was 24 Porsches. Mainly 993 GT2´s, 996 and 997 GT3 RSR versions, the latest Porsches were from 2009. 🚗🏁🇫🇮😀

CARRERA CLASSIC WINTER TESTING IN KUUSAMO
Team Carrera Classic was last weekend as a guest of Juha Kankkunen Driving Academy on their ice tracks in Kuusamo. The condition were perfect, -3 to -5 decrees with moderate wind. We were driving two days with our own 2.0 Litre Cup 1965 911 race car and the 1967 912 rally car as well the Audi S3 from JK Driving Academy.
The first day was getting familiar with the tracks and with the basics of ice driving. We got professional guidance from our own race driver Risto Virtanen who works as Head Instructor at JK Driving Academy in the winter season. It took also some time to get the old engines to run smoothly in the cold and humid conditions. The next challenge was the tyres. Our 912 was running perfectly with normal street legal winter tyres, but our 911 race car needed clearly more grip due to the heavier rear weight and more power. After changing to narrow Black Rocket 155/70/15, FIA historic rally tyres the 911 was also going perfectly. The 912 was star of the track with a very balanced run. Our team all had their own favorites. For some the 912 was the best car to drive, for some the 911 race car and even the modern Audi S3 with 333 hp had her own friends. It was a great weekend session. Thank you for the JK Driving Academy. 🚗😀

Latest engine project by Carrera Classic in the test bench. 2,8 liter engine with RSR internals, Rasant ITB (Individual throttle body) fuel injection system, Cargraphic exhaust system with flaps and MaxxECU engine management system. I am sorry, this is not really period correct as we usually do😞but for sure it will be great fun in any modified 1960´s or -70´s classic Porsche. Great combination of proven 1970´s Porsche engineering and todays best modern technology.💪🚗🇫🇮😀

DIX MILLE TOURS IN PAUL RICARD

Legendary Paul Ricard racetrack hosted 30.8 - 1.9 the 14th Dix Mille Tours event for historical race cars. This Peter Auto event brought together 400 historic racing cars in 10 different categories and 25.000 spectators over the 3 days.

For us this was a intensive and hot weekend. We drove two races: 60´s Endurance and 2.0 Liter Cup. This meant that we drove in total 6 hours on the track. The weather was beautiful and daily temperature was around +33 °C during the day and over +20 C° in the night.

The weekend was very good for us. The 2 hour 60`s Endurance Race was driven late on Saturday night in complete darkness. The race is for pre -66 sport cars: Shelby Cobra, Jaguar e-Type, Lotus Elan, … We drove in overall race to the position 31. out of 64 cars and in the performance race with engine handicaps we were 6. out of 64 cars. In 2.0 Liter Cup we were 14. in the qualifying after the spinning by Jussi on the fast lap. In the race we drove well and came to the finish line as 11. Risto was driving again well and he had both in Qualifying and in the Race the 3. fastest lap times.

The season 2024 for Carrera Classic Racing Team has now come to the end. We drove six races in Europe and two races in Finland. The season was good. In 60´s performance races we were 11/58 in Mugello and 6/64 in Paul Ricard. Jussi won both F/B starts in Finland. In the 2.0 Liter Cup we drove in all races in the middle of the pack (P10-P16) which has been our goal. Risto´s best laps were in all qualifying and race sessions between 3rd and 6th fastest. Our 1965 Porsche 911 was very good to drive and very fast. In Mugello in the beginning of the season and in the last race in Paul Ricard we had the best top speeds both in the qualifying and in the race.

2024 was a long and hard season starting already in mid March. It has been a lot of work but finally we have been successful, and it has been great fun. We thank everybody involved and supporting us as well as our fellow competitors and race organizers for a great season. 🚗🇫🇮😀

One 1965 Porsche 911 engine is live again !

Carrera Classic has complete again one rebuild of a original early (April/May 1965) 911 engine with Solex carburators and original air filter housing together with Kiveriöcustoms.

The engine is tested today first time in our new test bench which give us possibility to do the first test run of the engine with carburetor and ignition tuning. We can now do the running in, control oil pressure and temperature and do many other vital measurement to secure that everything is ok with a newly build engine before it is installed in the car.

Great engine, good test bench and a Great Day! 👏🇫🇮🚗😃
