Meet the ocean stars of Southern Spain! 🐬✨
Did you know that "delfín mular" is the Spanish name for the Bottlenose Dolphin? Named for their sturdy muzzle, they are the most famous dolphins in the world—and you can spot them right here along the Costa del Sol!
If you're sailing off Sotogrande or heading into the Strait of Gibraltar, keep an eye out for these amazing species:
🌊 Bottlenose Dolphin (Delfín Mular) – Powerful, curious, and the largest local dolphins.
⚡ Short-Beaked Common Dolphin (Delfín Común) – Known for their golden hourglass pattern and high-speed bow-riding!
🎨 Striped Dolphin (Delfín Listado) – Acrobatic jumpers with sleek dark side stripes.
🐋 Long-Finned Pilot Whale (Calderón Común) – Fun fact: despite their name, these gentle giants are actually giant dolphins! They live in the deep waters of the Strait year-round.
The mix of Atlantic and Mediterranean waters makes this coast a marine life paradise! 🚤🌊
