🚗 A Small Change at Alicante Drive 😭

As many of you know, Alicante Drive is a small, independent car hire business, and we work hard to keep our prices fair while providing a simple, stress-free rental experience.

Unfortunately, we’ve recently had our fingers burnt by a small number of customers who have returned vehicles without replacing the fuel they have used. This has happened far too frequently, and as a small business, we simply can’t continue absorbing those costs.

Because of this, we’re sorry to say that we will now need to introduce a fuel deposit on our rentals. This cost will have to be covered with a credit or debit card.

The deposit will simply safeguard us against vehicles being returned without the agreed fuel level. For customers who return the vehicle with the correct fuel level, the deposit will be returned in full. It is not something we want to do.

This genuinely isn’t where we wanted to go. We’ve always tried to keep things as straightforward and trusting as possible, but unfortunately, a handful of people have made this necessary for everyone.

We hope you’ll understand that, as a small business, every unnecessary cost matters.

🚗 Cracked Windscreen? Don’t panic! 🚗

‼️ A cracked windscreen is one of those things nobody wants to discover, especially when you’re renting a car. 😬

🥳 The good news is that when you rent a car from Alicante Drive, windscreen damage and replacement are covered by our insurance. So, if the unfortunate happens during your rental, you don’t need to worry about an unexpected bill for the windscreen. 👍

💪 During one of our rentals, our Citroen Picasso encountered a heavy stone, and the resulting impact caused a large crack in the windscreen. The windscreen needed to be completely replaced, so we at Alicante Drive entrusted the job to Carglass in Petrer. 🇪🇸

We chose Carglass because their booking system is quick and efficient, making it easy to arrange the replacement. Their staff were friendly and helpful, and we were even given a free gift, a car toolset! 🎁

Our newest 7-seater Renault Espace has officially arrived in Folkestone and is now beginning its journey through France before reaching its new home in Spain this Friday! 🎉

We’re incredibly excited to be adding another spacious family vehicle to the Alicante Drive fleet. Once it arrives, the real work begins as we start the process of registering it onto Spanish plates and preparing it for its first rentals. 🇪🇸📋

Every new addition to our fleet means more choice, more availability, and another reliable car ready to help our customers explore everything Spain has to offer. ❤️

🚗 Where’s our branding? 🚗

🤔 It’s a question that came up the other day and it was also the subject of conversation on another post.

🛡️ At Alicante Drive, we deliberately choose not to advertise our business on our vehicles. While branded cars can be great for marketing, we believe our customers’ safety and privacy are far more important.

👀 A car covered in rental branding immediately tells people that the driver is likely on holiday and unfamiliar with the local area. Unfortunately, that can make visitors a more attractive target for opportunistic criminals or unwanted attention.

🚙 By keeping our cars discreet, they simply blend in with every other vehicle on the road. It gives you an extra layer of privacy, helps you feel more relaxed, and allows you to enjoy your holiday without drawing unnecessary attention.

❤️ It’s one of those small details that often goes unnoticed, but it’s another example of how we always try to put our customers first. Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

🚗 Do You Need an International Driving Permit (IDP) in Spain? 🇪🇸

It's one of the questions we're asked most often, especially by visitors from the UK!

📋 When do you need an IDP?
✅ You DO NOT need an IDP if you have:
• A valid UK "photocard" driving licence
• A driving licence from an EU or EEA country
• You're visiting Spain as a tourist

⚠️ You MAY need an IDP if:
• You only have an older UK paper licence
• Your licence was issued in Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man
• Your licence isn't written in the Roman alphabet (an IDP or official translation may be required)

📝 Important: An IDP is not a driving licence. If you need one, it must be obtained before you travel from the country that issued your licence, and you must carry it with your original licence.
