An overheating engine isn’t always caused by one obvious fault.

Our engineering team was called to investigate overheating issues affecting both engines on a yacht. Rather than simply replacing parts and hoping for the best, the cooling systems are being systematically inspected to identify the underlying cause.

Initial investigations found several areas requiring attention:

• Small leaks/holes on the suction side of the seawater system on both engines
• Seawater pumps removed, stripped and inspected
• Pitting found on a seawater pump shaft
• A bearing found to be operating incorrectly
• Heat exchangers removed for inspection and cleaning
• Fuel and oil coolers removed from both engines
• Coolant systems drained to allow further access and investigation
• Components taken back to our workshop for cleaning, servicing and preparation for refitting

Marine engine overheating can be caused by restricted seawater flow, worn pumps, damaged components, blocked heat exchangers or a combination of several issues.

This is why proper diagnosis matters!

Berthon Spain Are Seeking a Part-Time SHORE BASED Guardiennage & Yacht Care Assistant in BARCELONA, Port Ginesta. With the potential to develop into a full-time role.

Candidates must have:

-Must be fiscally resident in Spain and have all working permissions in order
-Previous experience in the nautical sector preferred but training will be provided, with the opportunity to learn, develop and take on greater responsibilities as the role grows.
-Spanish and at least basic English
-Good attention to detail
-Ability to work independently
-Good level of physical fitness

Candidates must already be based locally or within commuting distance

Key responsibilities:

-Washing and general yacht care
-Interior cleaning and making beds
-Basic onboard safety checks
-Assisting with subcontractor visits
-Supporting the day-to-day Guardiennage operations

The successful candidate will work closely with our Managing Director.

Responsabilidades principales:

-Lavado y cuidado general de yates
-Limpieza de interiores y preparación de camas
-Comprobaciones básicas de seguridad a bordo
-Asistencia durante las visitas de subcontratistas
-Apoyo en las operaciones diarias de Guardiennage

Los candidatos deben residir en la zona o a una distancia razonable para desplazarse diariamente a Port Ginesta.

La persona seleccionada trabajará estrechamente con nuestro Director General.
