Up to 4 years old - Exempt
4 to 10 years old - Every 2 years
Over 10 years old - Annually

Placas verde (green plates) are an option to keep your vehicle legally on the road when importing and applying for registration in Spain. The green plates are usually valid for 60 days. This can sometimes be extended if there are delays out of your control. If you are a Spanish resident, you generally have 30 days after the vehicle entering the country to register it. Whilst completing the necessary processes from customs if from the UK, the ITV and registering the vehicle with the authorities, with green plates you can continue driving with peace of mind.
