As founder and CEO of Contest Brokerage, and later as general director of Contest Yachts, he gained lots of experience with international transactions and network cooperation with other yacht brokers. Based on this experience he decided to take international sales of luxury yachts

to the next level with Sea Independent. Rutger van Bemmel, founder of Boat Doctor in 2009, became in 2012 agent for Sea Independent in Spain. In 2012 both decided that the next step in the development of the Sea Independent network should be a greater integration and a more recognizable branding. “For our clients the network must be fully transparent and 100% reliable”. Sea Independent has optimized and documented its work procedures and codes of behaviour on the basis of strict protocols from the European Maritime Certification Institute (EMCI). After a very successful start in 2012 the collaboration between Marcel Borgmann and Rutger van Bemmel has lead to an even closer partnership. From the beginning of the year 2012 Sea Independent Spain will become the official main office for all the Mediterranean waters. With having the world class Marina Port Vell as being the main port in the old centre of Barcelona under transformation, and having soon the brand new Marina Bocana Nord next to the most prestige hotel W. This region will develop to become the main centre point of top class luxurious motor and sailing yachts for the entire west part of the Mediterranean. This will bring a even better service and knowledge to the region and will lead to a stronger bridge between the sunny part of sailing in the south, and the potential buyer markets in the north of Europe. With an international airport only 15 minutes from the centre, most European destinations are only a two-hour flight away.
