What has happened to the Formula Student and the teams that have participated? COVID19 has made it compulsory to adapt the competition. Gerard Sabaté Arroyo, from Fulls d'Enginyeria talked with Sol Vernet Casadó, from UPC ecoRacing and Javier Martín Delgado, our Team Captain.

This first season is over and now it is time to look back at this past year.

We started the season with the goal of building an autonomous car and finishing all the events in Formula Student Driverless.

This past year has been full of challenges and emotions, which we have overcome as a team to fulfill our common objective, see Xaloc running. For that we have to thank our university and sponsors for their inconditional support.

The competitions started this summer with Formula Student Germany. It was very hard for the team, as we did not have enough time to pass scrutineering. However, we loved the relationship with other teams. We all understand what it means to be in a Formula Student team, and we have help each other so much along the way. Driverless is a very new competition, so seeing the community we have created, where we help each other and unite forces to try to make this competition a little bit better is just wonderful.

Formula Student Czech was a great opportunity to keep improving on our car. We passed all scrutineering and obtained some great results in static events. We also really appreciated the organization of the event, who were very helpful at all times.

The season ended with Formula Student Spain, our home competition in Barcelona. We knew our car had potential and we wanted to show it. And so we did! After passing scrutineering, we were able to drive the events, and even finish the Trackdrive twice! Therefore we can proudly say we have accomplished the goals of this season.

In this first year as a Driverless team, we have realized that autonomous driving is one of the biggest engineering challenges we have nowadays. We are passionate engineers and so we are really glad to have entered this world. We have also realized the Driverless competition has triggered the growth of this knowledge within students. In just 3 years we can already see cars who are driving faster than with a driver!

So we would like to congratulate all the other teams competing with us this summer, we hope to see you soon, if not again in FS, maybe we can work together to make bring driverless cars into our streets.

Can Padró is a specialized company with more than 30 years of history, a reference in the world of security. The last 23th of May we presented our prototype Xaloc and the CAT12e, the one of our companions ETSEIB Motorsport, in the auditorium of the ETSEIB. All their caracteristics were shown focusing on their newest aspects.

It was a great day, many of our sponsors joined us, as well as all of our relatives. Once again, we would like to thank all of them, without their help this project would not be possible!

Today we are glad to present Carnet Barcelona (Cooperative Automotive Research Network), which has collaborated with us this season. A part from contributing to the project, they gave us the opportunity to present it at one of their conferences.

Carnet Barcelona is a knowledge hub for automotive science and technology, focused on urban mobility, and based in Barcelona. Being born from a cooperation platform for the mobility industry, local universities and institutional partners, it’s ambition is to become a benchmark in this area, in close alliance with European counterparts. It is forecast that up to 80% of the world’s population will live in cities in the coming decades. This change will challenge urban infrastructures, traffic systems and vehicles. Resources such as energy, space and time will be increasingly limited, while the need for efficient and individual mobility is likely to remain. The challenges these developments create for metropolitan areas and vehicle manufacturers are reflected in trends such as smart cities and connected driving.

Today we are presenting Logic Supply, the company that offered us a generous discount for the Cincoze DX-1000, our main processing unit in the car, and, therefore, its brain!
Logic Supply is a PC company focused on hardware for the IoT edge whose computers can operate in the harshest environments.
We chose to use the DX-1000 because of its rugged specifications and because Logic Supply offered us many different configurations from which we could chose to adapt the station to our specific necessities. We were able to choose the best fit in processing, RAM and extra modules for CAN conversion, for example.
The experience has been great throughout all the process with Logic Supply. A hardware expert advised us with the computer and, most importantly, with its final configuration. Once we had the unit, they helped us set it up to speed and everything is working fine from the beginning in every test we made.
