Destriero – The yacht that conquered the Atlantic 🦈

Built in 1991 by Fincantieri for Aga Khan IV, the 67‑metre Destriero was no ordinary yacht — it was a purpose‑built speed machine with one mission: smash the Atlantic crossing record.

Powered by three GE Aviation LM1600 gas turbines delivering 60,000 hp, it could reach an incredible 110 km/h (59 knots) — blistering speed for a vessel this size.

In 1992, Destriero crossed the Atlantic twice without refuelling. On the eastbound leg — 3,106 nautical miles — it averaged 53.09 knots and arrived in 58 hours, 34 minutes, 5 seconds.

Too fast for history? Perhaps. She wasn’t awarded the Hales Trophy for being a “private yacht,” but took home the Virgin Atlantic Challenge Trophy and the Columbus Atlantic Trophy for the fastest round‑trip ever.

A technical marvel. A design icon. And proof that speed is not just for the track.

City buses were wrapped with full‑size graphics of the rally car, turning everyday commutes into rolling rally stages.

Mazda Suitcase Car – Because travel can be a lot more fun 🎠

In the early 90s, a group of Mazda engineers had a crazy yet brilliant idea: what if your suitcase could also be your ride?
That’s how the Mazda Suitcase Car was born — a foldable three‑wheeler packed inside a hard‑shell Samsonite.
1.7 hp, top speed of 30 km/h, and ready to ride in under a minute.
Flip the front wheel up, attach the rears, slot in the seat… and you’re off, cruising through the airport.

At 32 kg and with no real intention of mass production, it was more of a marketing gem than a practical product — but it gave Mazda worldwide publicity and everyone who tried it… an unforgettable smile.
