Aston Martin is hoping that its major upgrade package, set to be introduced at the Hungarian Grand Prix, can become a turning point in its difficult Formula 1 season after a prolonged period of disappointing performances.

Aston Martin trackside operations director Mike Krack admitted that the team has not felt like it has been truly racing its rivals for some time, highlighting the struggles the team has faced with the current car’s performance.

The new upgrade package includes significant changes aimed at improving the overall performance of the AMR26. The updates feature a completely redesigned floor, revised sidepods to improve airflow efficiency, an updated engine cover, a new rear diffuser, modifications to the front wing, and adjustments to suspension components.

The main goal of these changes is to increase downforce, improve aerodynamic efficiency, enhance the car’s balance, and address the weaknesses that have affected Aston Martin throughout the season, particularly in cornering performance and overall stability.

Krack explained that the team has worked intensively at its Silverstone factory to develop the new package, but stressed that the upgrades should not be considered a quick fix. Instead, they represent the beginning of a new development phase aimed at closing the gap to its competitors.

The Aston Martin boss added that the entire team, including engineers working alongside Honda and technical figures such as Adrian Newey, has been pushing hard to find solutions and bring the team back into regular competition in the midfield.

While Aston Martin does not expect an immediate transformation, the team believes these upgrades could provide a clear step forward and lay the foundation for stronger performances during the remainder of the season.

Mercedes has identified the issue that caused George Russell to suffer a significant loss of power during the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.

According to the team, the problem was not a mechanical engine failure but a fault in the power unit's energy deployment system. The issue caused the electrical energy to be used too early in the lap, leaving Russell with reduced power on the long straights.

Russell had complained throughout the weekend about lacking straight-line speed compared to teammate Kimi Antonelli, a disadvantage that affected both his qualifying and race performance.

Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff explained that the problem cost Russell between two and two-and-a-half tenths of a second per lap. He added that the team had never encountered this specific issue before but was able to identify its cause after analyzing the post-race data.

Wolff also revealed that other Mercedes-powered cars experienced the same energy deployment issue to varying degrees, although the impact was most noticeable on Russell's car.

Mercedes is now confident that it understands the problem and expects to have it resolved before the next Formula 1 race.
