Our customer came to our dyno to tune their E36 Compact with a stock M52B25 and supercharged. They have installed water injection as with this setup they have had some exhaust valves burn out after 100 labs at the Nurburgring.
The aim was to maintain the same power but add safety and longevity for the engine.

After the final ignition tuning which kept things safe as could be the water injection tuning was then done, the pictures show what happens when the water injection is just turned on without any more tuning.

The red line shows a strong drop off as the water comes on.
The next picture shows the results after ignition tuning.

The ignition tuning coupled with water injection results in the targeted EGTs to be lower which will hopefully give the customer the longevity they are looking for.

The AEM water injection system sends a signal to the ECU which then swaps ignition tables on the fly based on the state of the injection being active or not.

The ECU harness has been completed and installed.
The part that goes to the engine bay won´t need updating again given that we have the 47pin connector and all pins are pre populated for where we don´t have a function yet to use them.

It splits into a internal interface which is a 18pin connector, then the engine bay interface which is 47pin.

This means that we can get to the next phase which is making the actual relay panel and engine harness and interfacing with the C101 connector.

The engine harness will need to be able to grow in terms of inputs and outputs, so in the next phase the development will aim to do that specifically.

As work on the engine loom continues the distributor turns out will be in the way so we´ve had a side step to modify that for the time being until we do remove it one day.

A spare distributor has been chopped down (the black block is a holder for the metal saw) a bit to make space, the original weights mounting points etc have been removed just leaving a single tip that will swing past this spare crank or cam sensor we had lying around.

Just need to tweak some dimensions and we can do the final print and then it´s back to the engine loom building.

We have been able to diagnose the running issues. In the picture you will see our test wiring floating about.

1. Reference voltage for the AFM was 8.5v
2. The AFM is faulty and only shows as if it is fully open
3. The ECU opens the injectors to 10ms which is about 3 times what they should be doing on stock sized injectors.
4. The plugs will keep fouling when this situation isn´t fixed causing more running issues.

Now I am no Jetronic expect but I don´t think 8.5v is accurate, but all depends on how the ecu works. In the end when we did a temp replacement with a LCP8 the AFM showed 4.9v and while running it showed that voltage constantly.

We will just go ahead with a new engine harness and allow the LPC8 to take over all the tasks the other devices in the engine bay where doing before. Maybe we go straight for some R8 COPs while we are at it!

The E30 arrived with all brakes essentially seized.
We have started the rebuilding process. The front pistons are just dirty which stops them from being able to move back.
The front rotors where also warped like a mobius strip so we got some OEM Brembo replacements for now.

There will be some big brake upgrades when the time comes. But it requires us to already have chosen the wheels for the car which is a headache in itself !

We have been working on the diagnoses of the running issues with the E30 and in the process we flow tested the injectors. The injectors installed where flowing almost 40% less than they should. So we picked up some oem replacement injectors which flowed far better and closer to what stock should be just a couple of % variance between them.

For our flow best we run the injectors sequentially using a LPC8 ECU so that the fuel rail doesn´t see as big swings in rail pressure and give us incorrect results.
We also have a injection counter on our tester we rigged up, on each opening of no1 injector it will count up and when it hits the pre-determined count it cuts off the 12v to the injectors. This allows us to run small pulsewidths to an exact opening count to give more accurate flow values.

We have a project !

An E30 even. We have some fun plans for this E30 in the near and far future.
First thing first is to fix it, unfortunately previous owners have not been successful in getting it running properly.

Stay tuned if you like E30s, ITBs, ECU installs, Turbo conversions and transmission swaps.

After a while of rebuilding , refitting, redesigning, retesting, repainting and reevaluating the FD-GT3 is back in business.

Owned by our customer in the USA it features a

6.8L Mast LS Long block, Black label Heads, stepped tri-Y long tube headers for power generation.

Cosworth Electronics SQ6 ECU with EMU PDM controlled by a Cosworth Electronics Omega D4.

After annoyingly finding some ignition system issues we had to leave it at 340whp at 50% throttle and 1500rpm shy of the final rev limit.
380ftlbs at 2500rpm at 50% throttle has never dissapointed anyone.

It will be back on the dyno soon enough for final tuning and drivability setup before hitting the track.
