❄️ Winter driving in Europe? Know before you go! ⛓️
Planning to drive through Europe this winter? Don't get caught off-guard! Many European countries mandate winter equipment during specific periods or weather conditions - and the fines can be steep!
📋 COUNTRIES WITH MANDATORY WINTER TIRE LAWS:
🔴 MANDATORY - Fixed Periods:
Sweden: Dec 1 - Mar 31 (new law from Nov 1, 2025)
Finland: Dec 1 - Feb 28
Iceland: Nov 1 - Apr 15
Bosnia: Nov 15 - Apr 15
🟡 CONDITIONAL (when weather requires):
Austria: Nov 1 - Apr 15 (4mm tread depth required)
Germany: Mandatory in snow/ice conditions (€120 fine)
Czech Republic: Nov 1 - Mar 31 (4mm tread minimum)
France: Nov 1 - Mar 31 in designated mountain zones (€135 fine)
Italy: Nov 15 - Apr 15 in certain regions
Denmark: NEW LAW as of July 2025 - suitable winter tires required in winter conditions
⚪ NO REQUIREMENT (but recommended):
Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Spain (except certain mountain roads)
⚠️ Fines range from €60-€5,000+ depending on country!
