11,250 nautical miles, two Atlantic crossings and a full Caribbean season behind her. Now "Gryps" has safely reached the Azores.
At the end of June 2025, the Sirius 40 DS "Gryps" left Kröslin in Germany with Charlotte and Frank on board. Their route first took them via Scheveningen, Saint-Malo, Brest, La Coruña, Madeira and Gran Canaria before joining the ARC+ in November.
From there, Gryps crossed the Atlantic from east to west, sailing via Mindelo in Cape Verde to Grenada, where she arrived on 6 December 2025.
Five months of Caribbean sailing followed, before the return journey began on 1 May 2026 from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. After a stop in St. George’s, Bermuda, Gryps set off again on 11 May for the passage back across the Atlantic, this time from west to east.
Fourteen days later, she reached Horta on Faial in the Azores.
For many bluewater sailors, Horta is much more than just a harbour. It is one of those special places where ocean passages, stories and traditions come together. The painted harbour wall, the flag exchange at the famous Peter Café Sport and the feeling of arriving after many days at sea make it a moment to remember.
So far, Gryps has covered around 11,250 nautical miles on this journey. Most of them sailed by her core crew Charlotte and Frank, often joined by friends and crew members for holidays and support on the longer passages.
We are very happy to see Gryps safely back in the Azores and wish Charlotte, Frank and everyone on board fair winds for the next leg via England and back towards Germany.
A wonderful example of what a Sirius 40 DS is made for: long passages, changing conditions and life on board with comfort, safety and trust in the boat.
