Warm greetings from the crew of the Sirius 40 DS “Amazing Grace”, anchored off the Strophades in Greece.

A small group of remote islands, turquoise blue water and the quiet feeling of being somewhere far away from everything.

Moments like these are what cruising is all about: finding places that feel almost untouched, dropping anchor in crystal-clear water and simply enjoying the beauty of being there.

“Amazing Grace” in the middle of nowhere. And exactly where she belongs.

11,250 nautical miles, two Atlantic crossings and a full Caribbean season behind her. Now "Gryps" has safely reached the Azores.

At the end of June 2025, the Sirius 40 DS "Gryps" left Kröslin in Germany with Charlotte and Frank on board. Their route first took them via Scheveningen, Saint-Malo, Brest, La Coruña, Madeira and Gran Canaria before joining the ARC+ in November.

From there, Gryps crossed the Atlantic from east to west, sailing via Mindelo in Cape Verde to Grenada, where she arrived on 6 December 2025.

Five months of Caribbean sailing followed, before the return journey began on 1 May 2026 from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. After a stop in St. George’s, Bermuda, Gryps set off again on 11 May for the passage back across the Atlantic, this time from west to east.

Fourteen days later, she reached Horta on Faial in the Azores.

For many bluewater sailors, Horta is much more than just a harbour. It is one of those special places where ocean passages, stories and traditions come together. The painted harbour wall, the flag exchange at the famous Peter Café Sport and the feeling of arriving after many days at sea make it a moment to remember.

So far, Gryps has covered around 11,250 nautical miles on this journey. Most of them sailed by her core crew Charlotte and Frank, often joined by friends and crew members for holidays and support on the longer passages.

We are very happy to see Gryps safely back in the Azores and wish Charlotte, Frank and everyone on board fair winds for the next leg via England and back towards Germany.

A wonderful example of what a Sirius 40 DS is made for: long passages, changing conditions and life on board with comfort, safety and trust in the boat.

Before it looks this perfect, it takes days of invisible handwork.
Eight maple planks. Countless decisions. One harmonious result.

In this reel, our boatbuilder Rune is fitting the wooden ceiling planks in the midships cabin of a Sirius yacht. The owner chose natural maple, a bright and beautifully calm wood that gives the cabin a warm, homely atmosphere.

What you see here is the final installation.

What you do not see is everything that came before.

It starts with the careful selection of the wood. The grain, colour and natural character of each piece have to work together to create one harmonious overall picture.

Then each plank is shaped and adapted to the complex geometry of the hull. Inside a yacht, almost nothing is truly straight. Every curve matters. Every line matters.

Before installation, the planks return to our own varnishing department, where the matt finish is built up by hand over several days. The result preserves the natural feel of the maple while giving the surface its quiet, refined appearance.

During the final fitting, Rune installs the eight planks one by one, from bottom to top.

The proportions of the upper and lower planks have to feel balanced. The distance between each individual piece is checked again and again, down to fractions of a millimetre.

Even the screws are part of the detail. Each one is polished before installation and then turned in by hand with exactly the right amount of pressure. Firm enough to hold perfectly. Gentle enough to protect the wood, the finish and the polished screw head.

It is deliberate work.

Careful work.

Experienced work.

And in the end, eight separate pieces of maple become one calm, balanced and beautifully crafted interior detail.

This is German boatbuilding craftsmanship at Sirius Yachts.

There are moments when everything seems to come together.

The light, the wind, the sea and a yacht moving calmly through the Lübecker Bucht.

The name „Kairos“ comes from ancient Greek and describes the right or opportune moment. A fitting thought for this scene: the Sirius 40 DS „Kairos“ sailing elegantly on the Baltic Sea, seen from on board and from the water.

A quiet reminder that sailing is often about exactly that: being present in the right moment.

P.S. Who can spot the photographer? ;)

A Sirius is designed to keep you connected with the world outside.

From the deck saloon, the view opens 360 degrees across the water. From the midships cabin and even from the forecabin, large hull windows bring the sea remarkably close.

Whether under sail, at anchor or simply enjoying a quiet moment below deck, the feeling remains the same: light, space and a constant connection to the water.

A true pleasure on every passage.

The Sirius 35 DS "Clipper" dried out safely on her twin keels, resting calmly and upright as the tide left the harbour.

For cruising sailors, this is one of the quiet but very valuable advantages of the Sirius twin keel option. It gives the yacht the ability to take the ground in tidal harbours and drying moorings with confidence, while remaining stable and well supported.

The reduced draft also brings a little more freedom to everyday cruising. Shallow creeks, small harbours, tidal areas and sheltered anchorages become easier to approach, giving owners more choices when planning their route.

A practical detail, beautifully shown in a very special harbour.
