🇩🇪 Der Große Preis von Österreich 1976 fand am 15. August 1976 auf dem Österreichring statt und endete mit dem ersten und einzigen Formel-1-Sieg des Penske-Teams, eingefahren vom britischen Piloten John Watson.
Nach dem schweren Feuerunfall von Niki Lauda auf dem Nürburgring zwei Wochen zuvor trat das Ferrari-Team aus Protest gegen die FIA und aus Rücksicht auf Laudas Gesundheitszustand nicht an.
Der Triumph von Penske war hochgradig emotional, da Penskes früherer Fahrer Mark Donohue genau ein Jahr zuvor auf derselben Strecke tödlich verunglückt war. Bis heute ist es zudem der letzte Sieg eines Teams mit US-amerikanischer Lizenz in der Formel 1.
🇬🇧 The 1976 Austrian Grand Prix took place on August 15, 1976, at the Österreichring and ended with the first and only Formula One victory for the Penske team, secured by British driver John Watson.
Following Niki Lauda's horrific fiery crash at the Nürburgring two weeks earlier, the Ferrari team withdrew from the race in protest against the FIA and out of respect for Lauda's health.
Penske's triumph was highly emotional, as Penske's former driver, Mark Donohue, had been killed in an accident on the same track exactly one year prior. To this day, it remains the last victory for a US-licensed team in Formula One.
