⚡The 48 V on-board electrical system is a modern extension of the traditional 12 V or 24 V systems used in commercial vehicles. It enables the power supply to high-power consumers such as electric turbochargers, active chassis stabilisers, electric air-conditioning compressors or mild-hybrid starter-generators (BSG/ISG). Due to the higher voltage, significantly lower currents flow, which reduces losses, allows for smaller cable cross-sections and creates efficiency reserves.
🔋Key components include a 48 V lithium-ion battery, a DC/DC converter for interfacing with the 12 V system, and either a belt-driven starter-generator (BSG) or an integrated starter-generator (ISG), which enables energy recovery and power boosting. With integrated starter-generators, even brief periods of purely electric driving are possible.
🚗The result is lower fuel consumption, enhanced driving comfort and a stable power supply for modern vehicle systems. At the same time, pollutant emissions are reduced, which helps ensure compliance with current and future emissions standards.
