Big sound. Easy feel.

42 cm of depth, warmth, and character.

Inspired by the work of Claudio Manfio, this viola combines a generous body with effortless playability thanks to its refined proportions and slim neck design. I am really thankful to Manfio who shared his ideas and insights on his Viola Model which is rich, expressive, and comfortable from the very first note.

I have introduced my own artistic interpretation through selected adjustments to the varnish color and some other aspects 🙏

39,8cm Viola Strad model made by me in Munich 2023 ist back in my Workshop. The owner exchanged the instrument to a bigger one for her studies in Berlin, she successfully played concerts and competitions on it. Due to her age we installed finetuning pegs. It is very easy and joyful to play.

A rare voice from Naples 🇮🇹🎻

Today I’m presenting a beautiful violin by Vincenzo Sannino, crafted between 1920–1925 in Italy.

Sannino is considered one of the most fascinating makers of the Neapolitan school. His instruments combine remarkable craftsmanship, individuality, warmth of tone , qualities appreciated by both musicians and collectors. His work remains closely associated with the Neapolitan tradition and stands out for its distinctive character and rich varnish.

For collectors, instruments by Sannino are especially compelling not only for their artistic and tonal value, but also as a long-term investment. Fine Italian instruments from this period continue to attract growing international interest and are valued both as musical companions and collectible assets.

Please note: this violin is not stored at my workshop, so viewings are possible by appointment only.

A short moment from the with 🎻

During the exhibition, violas of many different sizes and models made by Munich violin makers were played in concert.

The wonderful sounds and craftsmanship of my colleagues were incredibly inspiring, and now I find myself wondering:

Which model should I build next?

Sometimes it is the space between the tones the tenderness, the fragility that brings everyone in the room into the same quiet focus.

Grateful to Emiko Yuasa for playing so many different violas in this concert, and for bringing such sensitivity to the program.

A commissioned violin is much more than an instrument, it becomes part of a musician’s life and story.

Many people dream of owning a violin that truly fits them, but often don’t know how the process actually works or they don‘t really know what they are looking for and want.
The good news: commissioning a violin is a personal and collaborative journey and you don’t need to be an expert to begin.

When working on a custom instrument together, we start with conversations:
What sound do you love?
What kind of music do you play?
How should the instrument feel in your hands?

From there, we carefully select the tonewoods together, discuss every detail, and throughout the making process you can follow the journey of your violin from the very first pieces of wood to the finished instrument.

My goal is always the same:
To create a violin that inspires an instrument that grows with you musically and emotionally.

Thank you, Peter, for your trust and your beautiful words.
Stories like yours are exactly why I love building violins. 🤍
Peter sent me this snippet from playing on the violin I made for his son, it was pure joy to hear it at the Münchner Geigentage.

I’m very grateful to have participated in the exhibition and especially thankful that my violin could still be included, even though I only managed to complete it shortly before leaving for my vacation. The exhibition then began immediately afterwards.

After the first concert, I briefly took the instrument home again and was kindly allowed to replace it temporarily. During that time, I made a few final tonal adjustments and refinements. In its place, my commissioned violin, built for a talented young violinist, was presented at the exhibition.

I was particularly honored that Kirill Troussov selected this instrument to perform the fast movement of Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen during the concert. Throughout the exhibition, played some of the most virtuosic repertoire imaginable with remarkable ease on a wide variety of instruments made by my colleagues from Munich, demonstrating an extraordinary level of versatility.

Build from 60 year old spruce and maple reclaimed at auction, this isn‘t the average Viola I made. This is a Model graciously shared by combined with my own touch of inspiration. It started as an experiment and turned out to be a very special project.
Crafted with patience and respect, a new ground formula and high pigmented varnish have been tested, that to me suit this otherwiese modest wood quite well. This is quite the opposite of Manfios highly transparent and eyecatching woodselection.
This Viola is a true sonic powerhouse. At 42cm with a wide lower bout, it‘s build for bisher players who crave presence.
I am deeply grateful to Luis Claudio Manfio for sharing his Model. As a maker himself, he emphsises that a Viola should be above all a tool for the musician: designed for Sound and playability rather than mere esthetics.
