Unmatched emotions 🩵 Let’s fly away together with this beautiful 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing🪽 • A rare icon returns to the spotlight. This 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is one of the most special examples we have had the privilege of bringing back to life. The SL was originally delivered in the exceptionally rare color combination of DB 353 Light Blue Metallic over red leather and equipped with its original Rudge wheels. With matching numbers, matching colors and a remarkably well-documented history, this Gullwing represents everything that makes the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL so legendary. For many years, the car remained unfinished in primer before its journey eventually brought it to Bechtel Classic Motors. Our mission was clear: restore it faithfully to its original 1955 specification while preserving the character and details that make this particular 300 SL unique. In this film, we take a closer look at its history, provenance, rare factory specification and the details behind its restoration. In 2026, the Gullwing crossed the Atlantic once again for a very special moment: its first public appearance in the United States after restoration, making its debut during Monterey Car Week at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. From its rare DB 353 paintwork and iconic Rudge wheels to the story behind its restoration, this is the story of one very special Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.
