More than 30,000 novice drivers chose the L17 programme in 2025

Last year, we published several articles on the topic “The L17 programme makes the dream of driving a car at 17 come true.” Recently, the Czech Ministry of Transport presented interesting statistics on this popular innovation, which came into force in 2024.

In 2025, there was a noticeable increase in interest in gaining initial driving experience from the age of 17 under the supervision of a mentor. Under the L17 system, the Ministry of Transport issued more than 31,000 driving licences. The largest number of such licences — over 3,000 — was issued in June. By comparison, approximately 24,000 driving licences were issued under this programme in the whole of 2024.

It should be noted that the L17 system is also operating successfully in other European countries, notably Germany, Austria and Slovakia.

According to instructors at Horazny Driving School in Prague, young drivers participating in the L17 programme demonstrate a more responsible attitude towards driving, listen more attentively to their mentors’ recommendations and approach their training with greater determination and diligence.

New questions will be introduced in the final driving theory test at driving schools in mid-September!
These questions are designed to prepare drivers for real-life traffic situations and will use videos and animations to convey situations on the road more effectively than text or image-based questions.
It is not enough to learn the answers; you must also learn the rules, so that nothing surprises you in the exam.
