G4NA / G4NB Engines: Why These Problems Occur and What Changed Later

G4NA and G4NB engines have become common in the automotive aftermarket—but understanding why matters, especially for repair businesses and engine distributors.

The Hyundai-Kia Nu family was designed around a lightweight aluminum open-deck block. That brought advantages in weight and heat transfer, but it also placed greater demands on lubrication and thermal management.

In earlier engines, limited piston cooling could contribute to problems such as cylinder wall scoring, piston slap and excessive oil consumption under demanding conditions.

Later design changes introduced piston cooling oil jets and improved thermal management.

This video looks beyond the symptoms. We explain how the engine design evolved, why replacement demand developed in the aftermarket, and how JL POWER applies these lessons to its G4NA/G4NB aftermarket replacement engines.
