Double Coin Tyre Factory History

On June 19, 1990, the two major Tyre Manufacturers at home, Shanghai Dazhonghua Rubber Tyre Factory and Shanghai Zhengtai Rubber Tyre Factory, founded in the 1920s as the earliest tyre manufacturers in China, set up Shanghai Tyre & Rubber (Group) Company through strong union and merger. In May of 1992 the Company became a public listed company that issued A\B stocks for the first time in the domestic tyre industry and renamed as Shanghai Tyre & Rubber (Group) Company Ltd and in May of 2007 renamed as Double Coin Holdings Ltd.

The Group is a major supporting enterprise in the automobile and transportation industries and its main products cover all-steel radial truck tyres, all-steel radial OTR tyres, all-steel radial industrial tyres, all-steel radial light truck tyres and agricultural tyres. The Group owns the right of self-managed import and export and its products are sold to nearly one hundred countries and regions abroad. Its domestic markets cover all the provinces, cities and autonomous regions. At the same time the Group supplies necessary accessories to over 30 car manufacturers including CIMC, Zhengzhou Yutong, Xiamen Jinlong and Volvo, and successfully entered the U.S. market of original equipment tyres and supplied accessories for the trucks, school bus, engineering machinery and vehicles made by such well-known U.S. car manufacturers as John Deere, Caterpillar, International Truck and International Group.

The Group possesses several large production bases, namely, Double Coin Heavy-Duty Radial Truck Tyre Co. founded in 1992, Double Coin (Rugao) Tyre Co. Ltd founded in 2004 and the newly invested and built Double Coin (Chongqing) Tyre Co. Ltd in 2007 with a total production capacity of 6.80 million tyres.

The Group has set up a state-level technical center—tyre research institute with a strong research and development power, which lays stress on increasing its independent innovation capacity while introducing and absorbing advanced foreign technologies. The all-steel radial truck tyres have more than sixty specifications and nearly five hundred varieties with steady and reliable product quality; the all-steel radial OTR tyres and all-steel radial industrial tyres are the first of its kind at home that was developed with a complete specification and pattern and scale production and are very competitive in the domestic and foreign markets favored by customers both at home and abroad. The Group has obtained the quality certifications by the international authoritative institute—the U.S. Department of Transportation （DOT）, the Economic Center of Europe（ECE）and INMETRO of Brazil respectively and achieved the ISO9001 quality system certification, state compulsory product certification（”CCC” certification）, ISO14001 environmental system certification and ISO/TS16949 system certification at home.

The Group implements its brand strategy strenuously and cultivates and develops its own brands. The brands of Double Coin and Warrior have been awarded such titles for consecutive years as Shanghai Satisfactory Product for Users, Shanghai Brand Name Product, Shanghai Famous Trademark and Top 100 Famous Brands in Shanghai. The Double Coin brand tyre is recommended as the first of ten national brands in the Chinese tyre industry, famous Chinese brand product, famous Chinese trademark, Top 10 old Shanghai trademark, Chinese Time-honored Business Names, Shanghai Famous Brand for Export, Shanghai’s Economy Name Card and Symbol of Top Ten Shanghai Brands. In 2007 the Tire Review Brands Study listed the Double Coin brand in the charts for the first time (only the U.S., France, Britain, Japan, Italy and China were in the charts) . In 2008 Double Coin Holdings LTd was selected as a model enterprise of intellectual property right in Shanghai and was once again evaluated as a New & Hi-tech Enterprise in Shanghai and ranks first among its counterparts at home in the patents granted.

On June 19, 1990, in accordance with the requirements of the Shanghai Municipal Government, the factory established in the 1920s - The Shanghai Great China Rubber Factory and Shanghai Zhengtai Rubber Factory, the earliest tire manufacturers in China, established the "Shanghai Tire & Rubber (Group) Company " In 1992, the company became the first listed company in the domestic tire industry to issue AB shares and was renamed "Shanghai Tire & Rubber (Group) Ltd " in 2007, in order to further enhance the group’s brand awareness, it followed the international and domestic brand names, the company’s name was changed to "Double Coin Group Ltd " in 2016, after the company’s controlling shareholder completed the overall listing, the tire sector was independently formed as "Double Coin Tire Ltd ", and the name was changed in 2017 to "Double Coin Tire Group Ltd ".
