𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲? 🧵✨
Woven fiberglass may look simple, but behind it is a smart “protect → process → enhance” workflow.
1️⃣ 𝗙𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴
Molten glass is drawn into fine fibers. To prevent breakage during weaving, fibers are coated with a protective sizing (a mix of starch, lubricants, and binders) for strength and friction resistance.
2️⃣ 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴
Sized fibers are woven into fabric. At this stage, the fabric is strong but still stiff, and pores are partially blocked by the sizing.
3️⃣ 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 / 𝗗𝗲-𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴
High-temperature treatment removes the sizing and organic materials, restoring the fabric’s heat resistance and breathability—this is a key step 🔑.
4️⃣ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴
Depending on application, fabrics can be impregnated with PTFE, silicone, or other resins, then laminated to gain special properties like corrosion resistance, non-stick surface, or high-temperature tolerance.
💡Woven fiberglass is not just “glass threads woven together” — it’s a high-performance material engineered through precise processes.
