Acceleration sense, or accelerator sense, is the driving skill of smoothly controlling a vehicle's speed by precisely using the accelerator pedal (pressing to speed up, lifting off to slow down) to adapt to road/traffic, reducing reliance on brakes for smoother, safer, and more fuel-efficient driving, involving anticipation and planning. It’s about using the accelerator to manage speed for hazards, corners, and traffic flow, not just for going faster, allowing for gentler deceleration through engine braking.

Block changing
Block changing, or selective gear changing, is a manual driving technique where you skip gears (e.g., 5th to 2nd) instead of changing sequentially (5th to 4th to 3rd to 2nd) for better efficiency, reduced workload, and smoother control, especially when slowing down or accelerating quickly, by planning ahead to match the car's speed to the appropriate gear. It's useful when decelerating rapidly (braking from high speed to a lower speed for a turn) or accelerating briskly (jumping from 3rd to 5th to join traffic). Modern cars with better brakes and flexible engines make this technique more feasible and efficient, saving time and fuel.

The two-second rule is a driving guideline for maintaining a safe following distance of at least two seconds behind the vehicle in front. To use it, pick a fixed roadside object (like a sign), and when the car ahead passes it, start counting "one-thousand-and-one, one-thousand-and-two". If you pass the object before you finish, you're following too closely and should slow down to increase your distance.
