If you've had the electric parking brake fail on a Citroën C5 X7, Citroën C6, or Peugeot 508 (1st gen), there's a good chance it's not the motor — it's a small plastic gear inside the gearbox that gives up after a seized cable or a rough rear brake pad job.
Citroën doesn't sell that gear on its own. The "official" fix is replacing the whole EPB unit, which turns a small failure into an expensive repair.
I've been working on a full replacement gear set that fits straight into the original gearbox housing:
✔ Machined from high-strength engineering nylon — built for load, resists wear
✔ Comes with a dedicated opening tool, since the housing's four locking clips need to release almost simultaneously (force it open with normal tools and one clip usually snaps)
✔ Assembles into the stock housing with no modifications, smooth operation once installed
(The red parts in the photos are just for visibility, so you can see the geometry clearly — production sets are black.)
Currently in the testing stage — refining fit and durability before it goes up for sale. If you've dealt with this failure, especially a broken cable or damage after brake servicing, I'd genuinely like to hear about it in the comments.
