When we started VanVan, it was clear to me that this project would not simply be the next RV rental company, nor did I personally want to start something like that. Rather, I was and am convinced that VanVan should be a company where various exponents can share in my work and develop their potential. I know from my own experience that valuable things are created when people trust, share and participate. I like this, and the results achieved in the 2 years of VanVan's existence have convinced me once again that sharing makes you richer.

One of these collaborators, whom I would like to introduce here, is someone who would never think of putting himself in the spotlight. Even he would have every reason to. Creative Lead at Rome SDS, Art Director at Burton Snowboards, and with his current "movement" Shelter Cultivation Project, he has been moving the creative scene in Burlington, Vermont and from there the world with his iconic designs for years. He also runs his own screen printing shop, Iskra Print Collective, where he produces and publishes art and shares his expertise through classes. I'm talking about my dear and incredibly talented friend SHAWN DUMONT.

Shawn provided VanVan with the graphic "Destination Anywhere" from the Shelter Cultivation Project fund this year. This graphic has become an integral part of the visual identity of VanVan Walter, Walter Schreifels' van. It is emblazoned in nearly 2 by 2 meters size on the pop-up roof and went woven in New York into beautiful patches that are available at VanVan.

Unser Auftritt am Suisse Caravan Salon 2022 ist bereits wieder Geschichte. Es ist schlicht unmöglich, alles in Worte zu fassen, was in diesen 5 Tagen in Bern rund um unser junges Projekt VanVan geschehen ist. Was wir aber sagen wollen ~ und darum geht es uns am allermeisten - wir haben sehr vielen Menschen ein Lächeln aufs Gesicht gezaubert und ihnen für ein paar Minuten schöne Gedanken (Träume?) mitgeben können. Für uns und alle Beteiligten auf dem diesjährigen Messestand von Mercedes Schweiz ein grosser Erfolg, der uns 3 Nasen Felix, Thomas und Clemens enorm stolz und happy macht. VanVan am SCS22 mit Mercedes, für uns bereits jetzt eines der Highlights 2022.

Ein kleines Detail mit grosser Wirkung: alle VanVans haben den Schutzdeckel für die Wasser- und Stromanschlüsse in der Wagenfarbe. Dies lassen wir (wie auch alle anderen Spenglerarbeiten) stets beim Besten in Zürich machen, Sahli Karosserie in der Austrasse, eingangs Binz. Ein grossartiger Betrieb, der absolute Topqualität liefert.

Hi, my name is Walter Schreifels and I love to travel, particularly in vans...

I was blessed to grow up in New York City where the cultures of the world truly come together, and it gave me a hunger to go out to meet them all at the source. When I was at school my mind would drift off as I stared at the map of Europe on the wall, imagining what all those little countries with such big histories were like, each with their own languages, unique landscapes, people and traditions. I didn’t know it then but my parallel interest in music would end up taking me around the world as a touring musician, seeing the sights and meeting the people I was daydreaming about back at school.

My first band was called Gorilla Biscuits and we were in the punk scene in New York in the late 80s. CBGB’s was the name of the club that we’d play every chance we got. The shows there were incredible with hundreds of kids lined up around the corner of the Bowery trying to get inside. Eventually we were offered a record deal by an independent record label called Revelation Records. It was run by kids just like us and with the response to the records they were putting out they were helping to create a music scene that would soon spread across the globe. Next thing I knew we were in a 1974 Dodge Ram van that we had bought with $800 from our band fund, touring the USA, playing amazing shows, making new friends and drinking up all the natural beauty this country has in abundance and wasn’t long after that we were invited for a tour of Europe! I couldn’t believe my luck. (...)

The idea that you’re driving around Europe in my awesome VanVan, having the time of your life, listening to music together, the cool conversations you’ll have, stopping along the way, camping out, the adventures you’ll have, you’re just gonna have the best time and I guess I just want you to know that I’m psyched for you, drive safe and gute Reise!
