Looking for Class 3 Driver Training Instructor
Full-Time or Part-Time Position

Position Overview
Kam Lake Academy is seeking a motivated and professional Class 3 Driver Training Instructor to deliver high-quality driver training to students pursuing their Class 3 driver’s licence and Air Brake (Q Endorsement) certification.
The successful candidate will be responsible for classroom instruction, practical in-yard training, pre-trip inspections, air brake training, and on-road coaching. This position may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis, depending on the candidate’s availability and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction
Deliver Class 3 driver training curriculum.
Teach air brake system operation and testing procedures.
Explain transportation regulations, safe driving practices, and vehicle inspections.
Conduct knowledge reviews and student evaluations.
Practical Training
Train students in:
Pre-trip inspections
Air brake inspections and testing
Basic vehicle control
Backing maneuvers
Turning techniques
Defensive driving
Urban and highway driving
Coupling and uncoupling procedures (where applicable)
Student Evaluation
Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
Complete training records and progress reports.
Prepare students for government road tests.
Safety and Compliance
Ensure all training is conducted safely and professionally.
Maintain training vehicles in clean and roadworthy condition.
Follow all applicable GNWT, Alberta, and National Safety Code regulations.
Administrative Duties
Complete student documentation and attendance records.
Assist with scheduling training sessions.
Participate in program development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
Valid Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience.
Experience driving both Automatic and Standard Trucks
Clean driver’s abstract.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Professional appearance and attitude.
Preferred
Previous driver training or coaching experience.
Air Brake Instructor certification.
MELT or commercial driver training experience.
Experience operating:
Dump trucks
Gravel trucks
Water trucks
Vacuum trucks
Heavy equipment
Skills and Attributes
Patient and supportive teaching style.
Strong safety mindset.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
Comfortable using computers, tablets, and training software.
