This ‘Nordic' rollerball is a customer favourite. The piece has a simple elegance highlighted by cast fish on a satin gold centre band. Amboyna burl comes from Narra trees in south-east Asian countries such as Laos. Golden amboyna burl is a rare variant of the usually red burl. I cut this rollerball with a reduced profile. It is sanded and finished with friction polish to usual Wolverine standards. The pen uses Parker-type refills.

I will attend the 2-day art festival and sale in Sioux Narrows, Ontario, on 1st and 2nd August. Please drop by if in the area.

Have a look at this new offering: a Cyclone rollerball pen with fusion material of unusual maple burl and cerise alumilite on gold-finished hardware with black chrome detailing. This piece was progressively sanded, then finished with multiple coats of friction polish. The pen uses easily available, Parker-type refills. If you desire this piece as a fountain pen, I can quickly retrofit it with the appropriate #6 nib and ink converter.

In the past year I have added a new line of reasonably-priced ‘Manager’ rollerball pens to my stock. I try to keep reasonably-priced calligraphy sets in stock and have just added this beautiful boxed set. The pen cap and barrel consist of a fusion blue-dyed fiddleback maple and dark blue and purple alumilite. The set includes three interchangeable calligraphy nibs (1.5, 1.9 and 2.5 mm), a piston-style ink pump/converter, and 2 each of black and blue ink refills. I am also pleased to take custom orders to your specifications for calligraphy sets.

I don’t personally know any pink cats. Dyed white poodles yes; cats no. Nevertheless, here is a cat pen with pink pearlux alumilite urethane material (made in Guelph, Ontario) on bright chrome hardware. Note the pen clip, centre band with various cat pose silhouettes and the nib band with feline footprints. This ballpoint pen uses readily available, Parker-type refills. If you prefer an orange or grey tabby, black cat, or some other rendition, I can accommodate. Meow!

Recently delivered, a beautiful Mistral ballpoint pen with ancient Sonoran Desert ironwood from Arizona, coupled with black titanium hardware. Desert ironwood is extremely dense and, with a specific gravity of about 1.25, it sinks like a stone in water. However, it is wonderful to work with on a lathe, easy to sand, and it polishes to a high-gloss finish. This pen uses Parker-type ballpoint refills. Equivalent to a Mont Blanc ballpoint, but not fabricated from black plastic.

I recently found a dramatic black and caramel acrylic pen blank in the UK to pair with black chrome Cyclone rollerball fittings. This hard material required much patience to cut, sand and polish, but the result is impeccable and spectacular. The acrylic is called ‘Triassic lava’. The pen uses readily available, Parker-type refills. This piece will not remain available for long, so act quickly.

While I primarily create artisanal instruments for writing (fountain, rollerball and ballpoint pens and various mechanical pencils), and shaving (brushes and razors), I occasionally make various other hand tools for crafts and kitchens. As with pens and shavewares, I employ both rare and unusual hardwoods, both domestic and tropical. I take custom orders and also show these wares at craft and art sales I attend.

Today I am showing you a seam ripper, an essential tool in sewing baskets. These come with a variety of attachments, for example differently-sized seam rippers, stilettos, mini-scissors and needle threaders. These instruments can be created for a single tool with a pocket clip on the other end, or as a pair of tools, as illustrated in the accompanying photographs. The photos feature a large and small seam ripper and an elegant curly white ash handle.

Please contact me if you are interested in custom-made seam rippers, or other craft and kitchen tools.
