At first glance, the damage to Dave’s BMW 335i XDrive doesn’t look that bad. However, BMW parts are as expensive as you probably think they are. His vehicle was declared a write-off.
Dave didn’t think the replacement value he was given by All State Insurance was quite right. He tried to negotiate with All State, but they wouldn’t add a dollar to their valuation. Thankfully, his beloved BMW was taken to Elgin North Auto Body in Cambridge and Rodney told him to give me a call.
This was one of the most frustrating cases I have ever worked on. The adjuster constantly ignored my e-mails and phone calls. Finally, after me relentlessly hounding him for almost 2 weeks, he appointed a third party appraiser for me to negotiate with. That appraiser was absolutely unprofessional and tried to ignore the data I provided.
However, 2 business days later, I finally got the 3rd party appraiser to give in. The recovery amount of $1485 was well below my average, but it was fair. Sometimes, even the little victories are hard fought.
Never accept the first offer when your vehicle is written off due to collision or theft. Your insurance company has their experts, you should have one too.
