Faulty or sticky needles and gauges are a common problem for GM makes between 2000-2013 and Ford Mustangs 2005-2008.
Symptoms of a failing Instrument cluster include:
-Erratic, intermittent, inaccurate, or faulty readings on any gauge.
-Total or intermittent cluster power loss.
-Dim or burnt out ODOMETER or PRNDL displays.
-Sticking gauges, or gauges that don't reset to zero.
-In extreme cases (all too common) the entire instrument cluster is completely dead.
Beware of the knockoff motors you get off e-bay that wont even last a year.
The motors I use are an UPDATED Genuine OEM replacement straight from the manufacture.
I have seen LOTS of damaged clusters from people that tried to fix it themselves that resulted in having to replace the whole cluster.

For the 2003-2007 GMC/Chevrolet A Full rebuilt which covers all Power,Display,Lighting and Gauge issues is $220 for a 6 gauge cluster.
