Why wildlife collisions increase in fall

Fall means changing leaves, cooler temperatures and an increase in wildlife activity around Manitoba roads.

Deer are particularly active during the fall, and collisions can happen quickly.

A few reminders:

• Pay extra attention around sunrise and sunset.
• Watch the sides of the road, not just what's directly ahead.
• If you see one deer, slow down and be prepared for more.
• Don't make a dangerous sudden maneuver to avoid an animal.
• Give yourself extra time to react, especially on rural roads.

Wildlife can appear without warning, so stay alert and give yourself plenty of room to react.

Wawanesa folks!

We have a PDR (hail repair) technician on the ground again. We will be in contact to get these vehicles done. Our tech will be working weekends as well so if anyone is able to give up their vehicle for a weekend, please comment here.

Most hail jobs are done in a day or two. We are trying to order parts before we repair the hail so we can get the parts done at the same time as the PDR however lots of parts are taking longer than normal. There has been so much hail damage across the country this year that it has caused a backlog for those most popular parts.

Thanks everyone for the patience and understanding. Hail is a different beast to repair due to the specialty of PDR and the limited number of technicians available.

WINTER TIRE TIP: HOW MUCH TREAD IS ENOUGH?

Winter tires are one of the most important things standing between you and the road when Manitoba’s winter weather arrives. But even if your tires are technically still legal, that doesn’t always mean they’re ready for another winter.

As tread wears down, winter tires become less effective at gripping snow, slush, and ice. Deeper tread helps the tire bite into snow and move slush away from the contact area.

A good rule of thumb is to check your winter tires before the season starts. If the tread is getting low, the rubber is showing signs of cracking, or the tires are several years old, it may be time to consider replacing them.

And remember: legal tread depth and safe winter tread depth aren't necessarily the same thing.

Before the snow flies, take a few minutes to check your tires—or have a professional take a look.

Deer Season Is Coming — Keep an Eye Out on the Roads

As we head into deer season, Manitoba drivers should be extra cautious, especially during the early morning and evening hours when deer are most active.

Keep an eye on the roadside, slow down in areas where wildlife is common, and remember that if you see one deer, there may be others nearby. Deer can move onto the road quickly, giving drivers very little time to react.

If a deer crosses in front of you, avoid making sudden or dangerous maneuvers. Stay in control of your vehicle and brake firmly when necessary.

Come out Thursday evening to have an interactive conversation with Val.

Val is an amazing person with the biggest heart and she uses it to try to help parents/caregivers of kids as well as the kids themselves to be safe online.

In today's world of fast moving technology, we think we know what our kids are facing, but we have no idea of the evil that is hiding online. They pretend to be a kid and lure kids to make a decision they may not make otherwise.

Let's help them be safe. Come to Val's presentation Thursday evening. Grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, anyone who has exposure to caring for kids...this is for you!

Please register or contact the school to let them know you're interested in coming. Then Val knows how many to expect.

If you have hail damage to your vehicle, please book your appointment with MPI. Keep in mind that your vehicle may look fine outside however under the PDR lights we use, it may be smattered with hail dents.

Our PDR team is here for the next couple of months if we have work for them, so please call in and get that process started.
