There’s a scam going around targeting businesses in our industry with emails pretending to be from a “new accountant” asking for a list of open invoices and telling you to send future invoices to a different email address. It looks professional and often includes a company name, address, and even a logo, but the key red flag is that the email they want you to use doesn’t match the actual company. This is an invoice redirection scam—once you start sending invoices to that address, the scammer can intercept billing and attempt to redirect payments. If you get one of these, do not reply or send anything. Always verify through a known contact at the company before changing any billing details.
They look something like this:
"I hope this message finds you well. My name is Daniel Singh, and I am the new Lead accountant at ____________

As we work to settle all outstanding invoices, we’ve noticed that our system currently shows no open invoices from your company. To assist us in reconciling our records, could you please:

Provide a comprehensive list of all open invoices.
Resend any previously submitted invoices that may not have been processed.
Confirm the email address you have on file for invoicing purposes.

For future reference, please direct invoices and statements to "[email protected]" for timely processing.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you for your cooperation."
