What about these new screw plugs?

They are NOT a safe nor Permanent repair.

We have seen them, and even if they do work to stop the leak, they are temporary at best and might get you to an authorized repair shop to remove the tire, inspect and assess the true extent of the injury and perform a proper repair.

MYTH: “If it holds air, any patch will do.”
FACT: A safe passenger tire puncture repair isn’t “any patch”—it’s an industry-recommended repair process.

If you only cover the hole, you can leave an open injury channel that lets moisture in—leading to corrosion, separation risk, and comebacks. That’s why guidance calls for a repair that fills the injury and seals the inner liner (plug + patch or a one-piece combo unit).

✅ Right-size the repair (don’t guess)

Passenger tread punctures: ¼-inch (6 mm) max. Bigger than that = scrap, not a bigger patch.

Match the unit to the injury: Completely fill the channel and choose the repair unit size per manufacturer recommendations.

✅ What proper looks like (quick checks)

Demount + inspect before you commit to a repair.
Tread area only (not shoulder/sidewall).
