The 47th Annual Classic Boat Festival is taking over Victoria’s Inner Harbour this September 4–6, and we couldn't be more excited to celebrate the classic vessels of the Pacific Northwest.

Boater registration is currently open and underway, so stay tuned for exciting updates.

From May 30 to June 8, Victoria comes alive with Ocean Week Victoria, a citywide celebration of the Salish Sea through festivals, ocean experiences, marine education, paddling events, films and waterfront gatherings.

With more than 40 events taking place across the region, it’s an opportunity to experience Victoria through the lens of the ocean that shapes life on this coast.

There are more than 30 ocean-themed events presented by organizations across Greater Victoria this week including a few of our picks:

May 30 — Opening Festival at Gorge Waterway Nature House

May 31 — Fisherman’s Wharf Ocean Festival

June 3 — Ocean Careers & Opportunities Fair

June 7 — Sidney Beacon Park Festival

June 8 — World Ocean Day Celebrations -

One of the best parts of life at the marina is never knowing what you’ll spot next. For Ocean Week Victoria, we’re celebrating the wildlife that reminds us how connected we are to the Salish Sea every day.

A harbour seal beside the docks. Otters making their morning rounds. Jellyfish drifting through calm water. Even porpoises passing through the harbour.

We're back from another crab-ulous gathering for the Sentinel's of Change network on Quadra Island 🦀
We had a blast learning more about the charismatic Dungeness crab megalopae (aka adorable baby crabs), touring lab facilities, and brainstorming on how to continuously enhance this important, citizen science driven research.

A huge thank you to Lauren, Heather, and all of the Hakai Institute's crew for hosting this event and coordinating the light trap program throughout the year. GWAS' volunteers and staff have had a blast getting to know the smaller (but no less vital) marine critters around our waters. Thank you as well to the Victoria International Marina for hosting the trap and supporting this research!

If you'd like to get involved in next year's light trap monitoring program, reach out to GWAS in March. Until then, sea you later 🌊
