Alberta RCMP issue tow ban for sections of Highway 21 and Highway 16, NE of Edmonton

The Alberta RCMP have issued a tow ban for Highway 21 south from Fort Saskatchewan to Highway 16 (Yellowhead), and then along Highway 16 east to Elk Island National Park. Blowing and drifting snow is causing reduced visibility and dangerous driving conditions that make tow operations too dangerous. Police are responding to several minor collisions in the areas.

Please avoid travel until conditions improve.

Good morning everyone! We are out and about this morning and this is what the drive looks like from the old highway road to vermilion on highway 16.

Visibility is very low if next to no visibility, roads are icy in spots. Blowing snow causing drifts and the plows are out.

It is hard to see vehicles when coming on to the highway.

Please have your lights on if you’re going to travel. May save you an accident today.

If you don’t have to travel we say stay home.

Good morning everyone!

April 15 8:30am

We have some photos for you if you’re going from vermilion on hwy 16 to mannville and onto a
881 north and then back on hwy 16 to vermilion.

We would suggest you stay home as the both sides of the highway are complete ice no body is doing the speed limit if you are out and about please take your time. We were only doing 90.

Mother Nature it having a melt down and continues to create havoc for the roads.

Please drive safe and make it to your destination. If you need help, we are available don’t hesitate to call!!

Good morning!

As the snow has laid a blanket of snow over us again. This is what hwy 16 looks like this morning @ 8:34am.

There are icy spots, semis are kicking the snow up when passing. Visibility is great. We are doing highway speed just fine. Take your time and don’t rush give your self extra time to make it to where you need to go and you will be just fine!

UPDATE 10:30pm march 16th

There are multiple accidents along highway 16 from Lloydminster to Edmonton.

Please drive with extreme caution and be aware of your surroundings.

Give space and allow emergency services to do there jobs efficiently and safely as there are working hard to get things back up and moving.

If you need assistance please give us a shout. We are out and about doing tow calls.

If you have somewhere safe to pull off for the night or can make it to the next town please do so as it’s very unsafe with the freezing rain we got. The roads are just a skating rink.

This is a post I never ever wanted to make…

Today while doing what we do best, helping people out of a situation. We are truly lucky nothing worse came from this. Everyday I pray that our drivers make it to and from our calls.

Today my husband was hit while pulling someone out of the ditch. He had his lights on he was doing everything he was supposed to do to and he still was hit by a vehicle. You wouldn’t believe us by the pictures but a semi hit our truck. Our truck has major damage.

This is what happens when you aren’t paying attention. When it’s stormy outside like it is today and driving to fast. This accident could have costed my husbands life today. This is why we stress to always be aware, give space and to always slow down when passing a tow truck.
And for that matter for anyone on the side of the road may it be emergency services, a tow truck or simply a trucker or another car pulled over. that you pull over as much as you can and slow down to 60km when passing. It keeps you and other vehicle safe.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to be aware of your surroundings and to slow down and take that extra minute out of your day to keep everyone safe.

My husband is thankfully okay but the truck isn’t and that is what really matters. But please please for everyone’s safety slow down when you can’t see and be aware of your surroundings.
