The tariff war imposed by US adds yet another burden to the already suffering small businesses community. One effective help that Canadian Government can provide is Capping Credit Card Fees which are 4 times higher in Canada comparing to Europe, China and some other countries.
All payment providers are US companies having monopoly in Canada and exploiting our businesses.
If European Countries can place a cap on Credit Card company fees then the Canadian Government can do that, particularly now in these challenging times for small businesses.
Please make Canadian Credit Card Fees inline with European ones.
Despite all previous announcement from the Government our fees are now higher than the previous year going over 2% for in person payments, and over 3% for online payments. This is unsustainable. Please check this comparison diagram of the interchange fees.
