Tailgating is when you follow the car in front of you too closely. 🚗🚙

It’s dangerous to tailgate because your risk at getting rear-ended by another vehicle increases. 🚗💥🚙 Tailgating also leaves you less room to react and stop to avoid a collision.

To avoid tailgating:
- leave a safe following distance at all times (about two seconds of following distance)
- leave about a three second following distance when you’re behind a large vehicle or a motorcycle 🚛🏍️

Dooring is dangerous ⚠️

Both drivers and passengers have a responsibility to shoulder check for cyclists and oncoming traffic before opening doors to avoid causing swerving and/or collisions. Failure to do so can result in a fine of $368.🫣

Tip: open the car door with the far hand by reaching across your body to force you to swivel your head and check over your shoulder to see any oncoming traffic. 🚙🚗

When traffic lights stop working, the lights can go out or all four lights can start flashing.🚦If this happens to you, approach the intersection like a four-way stop.

At a four-way stop:
- the first vehicle to get to the intersection and comes to a full stop goes first 🛑

- if two vehicles get to the intersection at the same time, the one on the right goes first ➡️

- if two vehicles arrive at the intersection at the same time and are facing each other, the one making a left turn must yield for the vehicle going straight through 🚗

Here are 3 common driver errors on a road test to keep in mind to help you prepare and ace your road test 🧐

- Shoulder checks are very important, especially when making a turn and changing lanes. This is done to ensure that your blind spots are clear to execute your maneuvers. ⚠️ Examiners observe that the driver fully looks behind themselves safely and at the right times.

- Maintaining a safe speed is always critical. Be especially mindful in school or playground zones. 🚸 Driving too slow can also be a fault during your road test. Keep an eye out for signs with posted speed limits and stick to it.

- Turning without control of your vehicle is also another common error. Examiners are looking for good control of the vehicle while turning. ✅
