Brenda and I have been working hard on my new web site during my Christmas break. Please check it out and let me know what you thing www.mclauto.com . Cheers everyone!

After 43 years in the car business, I've decided to scale back my hours of operation. While the vehicles will be available to view on the lot at any time, test drives, interior viewings, and completing a deal will only be available during the following hours:

Well, it’s only been 3 years since my last post.
Starting this wonderful Christmas Day, that’s going to change.
No — I haven’t gone out of business, but my business has changed.
Earlier this year, I sold the Auto Service division that I operated for over 43 years to a former employee. On March 1, Robin Tattersall ( tattersallautomotive . com) officially took over the service operation and made it his own. Robin is, without a doubt, one of the best—if not the best—automotive technicians I have ever known, and I’m incredibly proud to see him continue the legacy.
Robin asked me to stay on to mentor him and help manage the service operations, while he remains the hands-on head technician. He is a truly exceptional diagnostic technician, and the shop is in very capable hands.
At the same time, I had been preparing to close the Auto Sales division. After some discussion with Robin, I’ve decided instead to reorganize it—with a new direction. More to come about the new direction.
Rather than focusing on higher-end European vehicles like BMW, I am shifting my focus to a part of the used-car market that has almost disappeared: good-quality vehicles under $10,000.
This is the part of the market that has become the most difficult—and risky—for people who simply need reliable, affordable transportation. I’m not doing this to make a living—I don’t need to—and that allows me to keep prices fair, vehicles honest, and risk as low as possible.
The goal is simple:
Affordable vehicles. Good quality. Real protection for the buyer.
More to come.
Merry Christmas, and thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years.

It's okay, we can help you with that. We want to make sure your car is healthy and happy. While regular maintenance is a key factor, our experienced team can help diagnose those "funny sounds" or "weird vibrations" that you might notice.

Be careful out there!

Many accidents have already happened today. Police are advising to stay off the road as much as you can.

Let's all hope this is the last rough roads of the season!

Stay safe.

The history of the steering wheel

In 1894, at the famous Paris- Rouen race and introduced the steering wheel as we know it to the world.

When steering wheels appeared on the scene they were made of a metal substrate covered with wood. Over time, the wood was replaced by plastics, not only for reasons of cost but also because wood can split and cause injuries in accidents.
It wasn't until the 1950s that it became popular to line steering wheels with real or artificial leather, which gave drivers a better grip.

Today steering wheels are equipped with a number of features, horn, cruise control, radio control etc....but it all started with metal circle!

Fun facts to kick off the new year!

Have you heard of Bertha Benz, wife of Karl Benz who invented the first Mercedes-Benz?

This amazing lady not only financial subsidized the process of invention but she also was a big part of the invention process as well.

Karl was an amazing inventor but lacked skills and gumption in the marketing department.
Bertha knew the power of publicity and so she decided to pack up her 2 boys and unbeknownst to Karl, took their newly invented vehicle for the first long distance road trip. 120 miles!

When she ran low on fuel, she found a local pharmacy that sold ligroin, the petroleum solvent used to run Karl Benz’s cars.
She made an emergency repair to the car’s ignition with her garter.
When the fuel line became clogged , Bertha was able to clear it using nothing more than her hairpin.

Bertha is even credited with devising the world’s first pair of brake pads: when the car’s worn-down, wooden brakes began to fail, she asked a local shoemaker to install leather soles instead!

Without Bertha Mercedes Benz would have never come to be. Thanks Bertha!!!
