We asked your opinion to winter tire or not, now we'll share some information:

Although, Quebec is the only province to require winter tires on all vehicles for the duration of the season, British Columbia does also require for some highways and from October 1 to March 30.

Interestingly, both Alberta and Ontario do highly recommend, with Ontario going far enough to require insurers to offer a discount to drivers who use them.

Most insurance companies across Canada provide between a 2% and 5% discount for the use of winter tires - dates individually required by insurer.

For a bit of added trivia, as anyone GenX and older will remember, we used to call them snow tires. The reason for the evolution to winter versus snow is in the advancement of the rubber technology! It is now designed to perform better in colder weather (anything colder than 7C regularly should be winter tire time). The official introduction of the 3PMSF in 2006 denotes a line in the sand when it became about cold, not just tread.
