Why should you switch to synthetic oils?
The performance and suitability of synthetic and mineral engine oils for various types of engines can differ significantly from one another.
The following are some of the most significant variations:
1. Base oil: While synthetic oil is produced chemically through a complicated process, mineral oil is derived from crude oil. In general, synthetic oil is more reliable and purer than mineral oil.
2. Performance: Synthetic oil typically performs better than mineral oil in terms of preventing wear, keeping engines clean, and maximizing fuel efficiency. Additionally, it can work better in hot and stressful environments.
3. The price of purchasing versus the price of using Synthetic oil is typically more expensive to purchase than mineral oil due to the complexity of its production and higher quality, but when you look at the total cost of ownership, using synthetic oils is much less expensive than using mineral oils because you spend less on labour, spare parts, and downtime when you use higher-quality, longer-lasting synthetic oils.
4. Viscosity: Synthetic oil typically exhibits a more stable viscosity over a wider temperature range, enabling it to offer better lubrication in a wider range of operational circumstances.
5. Durability: Synthetic oil typically has a longer shelf life than mineral oil and can often go longer between oil changes. This is because synthetic oil is less likely to degrade and breakdown.
6. Compatibility: Not all engines, especially older ones made to run on mineral oil, are compatible with synthetic oil. To find out the recommended oil type for your vehicle, consult the owner's manual.
Overall, synthetic oil outperforms mineral oil in terms of durability and performance, but it can also be more expensive. Before switching, it's important to check your owner's manual because it might not be appropriate for all engines.
